Alexz Johnson had her video for her debut single Trip Around The World released to MuchMusic today. It's the lead single of her debut album Voodoo(released March 30th). This has been a very long time coming for her. Every step forward is the culmination of years of work that the world is finally getting to see and not just her core group of very hardcore fans.

This video was filmed in New Orleans by director Michael Maxxis. Audobon Park and Bourbon Street are clearly in the video. What makes this video stand out and be different from a lot of videos today is that it's filmed in black and white and that it was not shot digitally. Using real film made the editing process take longer for most videos and didn't get released until today showing how painstaking that process is though digital would have finished it much faster. The film look definitely make it look different than anything else out there.

The video shows Alexz, and her brother Brenden, goofing off in the historical areas of New Orleans. One of the biggest strengths of the video is that it shows how normal Alexz is. It's very candid and, in some ways, looks like a home movie or documentation of a trip to a new place. She is seen trying to call a duck over to her, climbing a tree in Audobon Park, and walking through Bourbon Street, something that many others who have visited New Orleans have probably done on their visits.

The real subtely here is that Alexz seems to have an over-encompassing vision to things she does, especially musically. She called her album Voodoo, and while Trip Around The World is the only track we've heard from it there's a good chance the southern influence of music, sounds, and culture will be on her album as well. She looks like she's having a great time in the video and though it was surely exhausting for her to finally wrap it and return home, there's no one I know who has ever visited New Orleans and didn't return uneffected.

This video shines in its simplicity. Her song is catchy and she's more than a charmer. I've often become fans of artists after they've become mainstream or huge successes. I can count on one hand the artists where I was there before the whirlwind of success started. Alexz Johnson is one girl, who at this very moment, may still be known only to her fans, but this video is the start of something new. The start of something more. She is entering a new chapter in her life and in her career. I hope you'll take the trip along with her.

I Love It, I love it, I love it When your free

It's time to take a trip around the world with Alexz Johnson's First music video for her album VooDoo released in March. Alexz is the voice of an angel and this song is no different.
