Akira Kurosawa and Ang Lee are two great filmmakers in my opinion.

That is a tough one. I guess it would depend on the genre they are doing. Park Chan-Wook , Kim Ki-Duk, Ryu Seung-Wan, Lee Chang Dong and Kim Ji-Woon are among my favorites from Korea. From Japan, I have Yoji Yamada, Takashi Miike, Kitamura and Yojiro Takita. Of course, one needs to remember the directors who put Japan on the map of cinema such as Kurosawa, Kobayashi, Okamoto, Ozu and Gosha. China has Johnnie To, Wong Kar-Wai, and Zhang Yimou. Again, it all depends on what they're doing, but those names usually make me buy a movie.
