The Revival of Punk

Hey Orlok-- I, too, am a fan of old school punk. Love Operation Ivy, to name my favorite bay area band. But I think that Green Day's older stuff definitely sounds like they are too. Kerplunk and Dookie are like homage to what they were listening to at the times that those records were made, in my opinion. But I have to admit that I love all of their albums. Insomniac is awesome, and even though they have pretty much the same routine at every show they do, its so much fun and amped up that I have thoroughly enjoyed every GD concert I've been to. In regards to American Idiot, I think that this this album, they definitely crossed over into mainstream consciousness. Well, I guess Time of Your LIfe got a lot of attention (played at like every high school graduation ceremony that year, I'm, sure). But my point is, when you can hear a Green Day song on KFog or Alice, you know they're not really just punk anymore. It's kind of melancholy for some fans, even though we're happy that they are so successful. I went to the concert at PacBell Park, and it was funny because many of the fans who were there sung along to every American Idiot song, but the minute GD started to play some of their older staples, people suddenly got this lost look on their faces. Anyway, love Green Day, and J.A.R. is an amazing song that will always remind me of high school.
