Not So MARVELous

Great artwork fails to impress when coupled with a largely incoherent story -- mostly because (SPOILERS IMMEDIATELY AHEAD!) the bad guy is largely most incoherent due to a spatial (?) condition of being caught between the various worlds of the Marvel Universe in this first volume hardcover outing featuring the adventures (including losing a cell phone!) of the lovely Ms. Marvel. First volume collections usually are great jumping aboard points for new readers, but I fear that those folks missing knowledge of THE HOUSE OF M and CIVIL WAR might be at loss to understand much of what's going on here as much of those storylines heavily influence what's going on within these pages. Also, don't look for any closure: this volume -- the collection of the first five issues of Ms. Marvel -- is billed as 'Volume 1' (perhaps this should've been listed more prominently on the book itself) and ends largely in the middle of the main story and with a significant cliffhanger-style appearance by Captain America.
