Try Something New at Wandering Dog

  • Mar 27, 2010

I wish there was a wine bar like Wandering Dog in my hometown. Since there's not, I plan to visit Wandering Dog whenever I'm in Solvang.

The #1 advantage Wandering Dog has over other wine destinations in the Santa Ynez Valley is choice:

  1. Because it's a wine bar, it's open more hours than the average tasting room. Choose when you want to go.
  2. Because it's a wine bar, you can order a glass, a taste, a flight of wines or a bottle. Choose how much you want to drink.
  3. The selection of wines is large. There are a variety of pre-designed flights to appeal to different interests: want just sparkling wines? just reds? just local? just international? just dessert? just beer? staff favorites? Yes, there's a tasting flight for that. Choose what you want to drink.
  4. There's a bar you can sit at, or you can grab a private table in the room or on the patio. Choose who you want to drink with. But don't sit on the patio if you don't like dogs, because you may have to drink with dogs.

Everything about the Wandering Dog is welcoming. It's a family-run business, and you'll be able to learn about what you're drinking -- if you choose to -- from anyone pouring. There's always interesting art on the walls and lots and lots of bottles of wine on the walls to check out.

Wandering Dog is sometimes one of only a few or the sole distributor for some boutique wineries or wines. I recently tasted Thread there, and know that they're the only place I can get it. And I want to get it. Yum.

Wandering Dog also has it's own wine label. The owners contract with local winemakers to make small productions of certain varietals for them. The Wandering Dog labels feature sketches of the family's pet dogs past and present.

Great wines. Great service. Great vibe. Fair prices.
