About Me

Since I retired in 1995 I have tried to hone skills in muttering to myself, writing and napping. At 75, I live in one of those places where one moves from independent living to hospice. I expect to begin receiving my palliative morphine injections in a year, more or less. Although an atheist, I have been accepted with kindness and good cheer by the … more

The Mystery of the Wax Museum
The Mystery of the Wax Museum is more mystery than horror, but the secret of Ivan Igor (Lionel Atwill), which comes by way of a sharp crack to his head, is satisfyingly startling. Despite the age of the …

posted a Quick Tip about McDonald's. November 13, 2011
Someone has to speak up for McDonald’s. I’ll gladly accept the challenge. I’ve eaten their burgers in cities across the nation since 1964 and I’m still munching with delight. The …

The Debt
The Debt, an exceptional thriller, works on many levels. Its structure has just enough pay-attention moments that some viewers will be confused if they don’t. That’s big plus for me. The plot …

Charlie Sheen, after all, is a human being and we all share that DNA we call the human condition. I don't see how we can make fun of him or turn our faces away and still pretend to be caring people. I …

Message on Amazon.com says that Charley2 has passed away. Condolences. Here's the message I received: "C.O. (Charley) died two weeks ago after a long fight with renal cancer. He was 77, I believe. There doesn't seem to be any obituary available online. He posted about his experience with cancer and other matters in a thread at the old Amazon reviewers' discussion board, showing the same humanity, insight and wit he showed in his reviews and discussions of all manner of things. http://forums.prosperotechnologies.com/am-cu...ew/messages?msg=32547.1 It's something of a miracle that he kept reviewing until so recently. We'll miss him and the reviews he would have written of classic and obscure films."

Have had a case of my one remaining kidney dying. That left me with a choice of hospice and soon being dead or dialysis and perhaps not being so dead so soon. So I'm on dialysis three times a week until I change my mind. I plan to continue posting but much depends on my resilience from having my blood washed so often. Will try to do something with Craig and Mara and with Garrow's Law. I'll find an oldie or two, too.

Had a stroke in early October. I'm back at the Village today. It was a only light touch on the brain, and cognitive powers and speech unaffected. Left side of body isn't doing too well, but I've regained enough control in left hand to type. It could have been worse...and then left to spend hours watching Bridezilla in a Texas nursing home. I'll be posting in a few days.

Wow, thanks for the info. My father had a similar stroke and he's doing fine now, in his 70s. Nothing's more horrible than watching Bridezilla in a Texas nursing home!
