The most artful and skilled director of the Silent Era and the greatest German cinematic director of all time. Murnau not only changed the way cameras were used, but also added a level of symbolism, characterization, and visual atmosphere to his films that has never been rivaled. For those who are unfamiliar with his work, you must see these five films:
Nosferatu - Eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horror)

Der Letzte Mann (The Last Laugh)

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau
Nosferatu - Eine Symphonie des Grauens Der Letzte Mann Faust Sunrise
