As you know most plastic straws are flimsy and disposable.  They are also made from polypropylene, which is a plastic that most recycling centers will not take.  This means after you use them you have to throw them in the trash. A great eco alternative are glass drinking straws. A good source of glass drinking straws are those made … more

Getting seven hours of sleep is good for you

Many of us have heard that we aren't getting enough sleep.  This is very true.  Getting at least seven hours of sleep a night is very important.  It is not just to feel more refreshed the next morning.  There are many more health factors involved here that should discussed.  Getting enough sleep is another healthy habit that … more

Last year I helped a friend take down an old barn similar to the one in the photo on the right. His goal while taking the barn down was to salvage, reuse and recycle as much of the building materials as possible. His plan was to recycle the metal from the roof and to reuse some of  the wood. He would take the metal to a local recycling center … more

Only Floss the Teeth You Want to Keep

I know flossing your teeth is annoying, but it is an integral part of your overall health.  Flossing regularly not only helps the goings-on in your mouth, but throughout your entire body.  Which is also why it is so important to visit your dentist twice a year. Your mouth is the gateway to your body.  There are many bad … more

Who's Really the Best at Donkey Kong?

This entertaining documentary goes into the wacky world of diehard arcade gamers. The main focus of this movie is that even 25 years after the height of the Donkey Kong game, there is still two men on a quest to hold the World Record. One is Billy Mitchell, who owns many world records. He'll be the first to tell you that he is the greatest guy in the … more

Favorite Flowers to Grow (15)

in the Green Living community
For the most part these are my favorite flowers to have in my garden.  Pansies are the only annuals, meaning they don't come back and you need to get new ones every year,  in the bunch.  I'm big on a variety of color so those are the ones that make this list.  I lived further south I would get more into tropical flowers.

Favorite Vegetables to Grow (12)

in the Green Living community
The following are my favorite vegetables to grow in my garden. OK, not all of these are technically vegetables. There may be a fruit in there. It's my list! I've grown all of these more than once, but alas I can't grow each one every year. My list is sort of in order, but not exactly.

All is well. In the last two months I've finally become gainfully employed. This has really given me less time for certain things. I'm getting closer to getting back to the fun things (like Lunch.com) while getting accustomed to my new schedule. I hope all is well with you.

Glad to hear all is well, and congratulations on the new job! I've been there before -- going from having plenty of spare time to very little was the hardest adjustment back into the world of the employed for me. I'll look forward to seeing you back on the site!
