Who's supposed to shop here?

American Eagle was my number one store to spend all my money in, that is when I was middle school. I loved the "favorite tee" and the abundance of hoodies that the store provided. The slogan tees became a staple, and in the summer I lived in their shorts, skirts, and tanks. The price range was affordable and at any given time you could go to the sales rack and find something. They also introduced the All Access Pass that gave you points based on what you bought. These points could later be redeemed for coupons and as an All Access Pass Member you would get flyers about exclusive deals online and in the store. As far as atmosphere goes, the music wasn't playing loud, I could actually carry on a conversation while shopping, and I could always tell who actually worked at the store thanks to the black ear pieces all the associates wore.

Then the sizes changed. I went on to try on jeans and found my self thinking "either I've gained a ton of weight and no one told me" or "AE has slimmed down". I moved on to the shirts, (I had plenty of jeans anyway) and had to go up a size in certain styles. Everything was smaller. So who's supposed to shop at AE? I looked around and realized who, pre-teens. Though it should be noted that at any given time if you go in and try to get anything in the store that is larger than an M you have to ask them to look in the back, or get it on line. So either they just overstock on the small sizes or a lot of people aren't small that shop at AE.

Shopping at AE now is a hit or miss. What used to be my favorite store is now my brothers favorite store. Maybe it's the 5 year age difference? Or maybe AE has changed their demographic? But recently I have found some good closet staples at AE. You just have to search and be able to deal with trying on the same clothes that a 12 year old is also trying on.

Yes, this is totally like shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch! Last summer I was shopping and on a whim decided to stop into A & F to get a golf shirt. I got my normal small and when I got it home and tried it on I couldn't even get my arm through the holes (yikes!). Now i know better! It is unfortunate though that junior high girls who aren't a size zero are still going to want to shop at these stores and it will continue to perpetuate poor body image issues that are unnecessary and harmful. :(

AE is like one of the few stores I shop at because they carry the x-small size. I'm not particularly small, I'm 5'9, but my metabolism prevents me from gaining weight so basically there's 3 stores in the US that make sizes I can wear, and AE is one of them, LOL!

Agreed. I too prefer the slimmer fit shirts/hoodies they have since I'm a skinny guy. BTW, what are the other 2 stores that makes your size?

Haha, no joke, it's Lacoste and Ralph Lauren.

College Fashionistas Give American Eagle Outfitters an A+ for Affordable Hipster Chic
When you think of American Eagle Outfitters, you might remember the frumpy Birkenstock clogs, ill fitting graphic tees, and flare jeans of their past, but in recent seasons, AEO has definitely stepped it up a few notches! Their new collection offers glammed-up bedazzled ponchos, vintage distressed chambray jackets, boy-fit jeans, and tribal gladiators that you will just die for! Walking into the NEW American Eagle is like taking a trip into the vintage store of your dreams, except with WAY better …

I am not a fancy person. I don't even try, because every time I try dressing out of my self-made cotton box, the result is invariably costumey or kid-playing-dress-up. Then there's the fidgeting and tugging to make sure things lay flat and pleats are straight, or my absolute favorite: "sitting pretty" so you don't wrinkle. American Eagle Outfitters is a sanctuary in cotton blend.   Definitely skewed toward beachy casual, AE clothes are simple, affordable, well-constructed, and almost never …
