My Favorite Directors
I love films from all countries and all decades and all genres, but not all directors. Here's a rather selective (read: short) list of my top film directors. Rather than explain why they are my favorite director, I'm going to list the three films that I see as being their greatest achievements and I've included links to where you can buy those films in the best available DVD versions and for the cheapest.
To Trashie... "The Dark Crystal" remains one of my all-time favorite fantasy films, despite some outdated special effects. It had everything else: quality storytelling, intelligent themes, terrific puppetry, beautiful production design, great music and a strong voice cast. "Labyrinth" was a little weaker since it aimed for a lighter tone and was meant for younger audiences, but it had a sweet message to it and one of the best soundtracks ever, in my opinion. If only Bowie hadn't been wearing those ridiculous tights! LMAO!
By the way, your links do work, at least the ones I've clicked on.
I think what I admire most about Nolan is that he uses a very unique style when directing his films. I just wish he had more movies to admire, but he's one of the few directors that has never disappointed me.
