I've always been a bit of a girly-girl (no, I'm not talking head-to-toe pink or Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde) just, you know, a little ruffle here and bit of lace there. Call it the "feminine-romantic" vogue. That said, when I saw leather bomber jackets decorating the divas on the streets of Chi-town, my gag reflexes were in full effect. I mean, I love my man leather-clad, but I wasn't sure that I could pull off the hard-street-girl style without looking like a seen-better-days Aerosmith roadie…truly tragic.
Then I figured out the trick… if you've just got to wear a bomber jacket, keep it cropped and fitted and pair it with an ultra-feminine item. I'm talking pleated skirts, a lacey tank, a bold necklace or a party dress. Not only does the leather add a lil' sass and edge to the ensemble, but it makes the mix of styles and fabrics pop and sizzle. Best of all, this urban-chic and vintage-charm combo is sure to have the bad boys revving their motorcycles!
Tip: For a more sophisticated look select a darker shade jacket (i.e. black, grey, chocolate).
My favorite styles include Silence and Noise leather jackets and bombers (a mere $128.00) and the ultra-cropped, sleek Nordstrom haute hippie bomber.
