It's as if this eyeshadow was made just for my eye color! Oh wait, that's because it was :)

If you took a look at my list of top 10 beauty products, you'll notice that my typical eye makeup routine consists of five separate products to complete.  Those who actually see me on a regular basis are probably thinking, "Really?  Five different products?".  Oh shush.  Yes, it might not look it, but it actually takes five different products to create my favorite casual look every day.

Rewind back to a week ago when klutzy me somehow misplaced my black CoverGirl eyeshadow.  I pretty much freaked out and immediately went out to Target (while wearing sunglasses!) to replace it, where I proceeded to have another freak out when I found out that they were out of my "shimmering onyx".  After getting over the initial shock, I calmed myself down and decided to walk through the beauty aisles to look for a replacement.  I found plenty of other brands of black eyeshadow, but none of them had the same glittery bits as CoverGirl's "shimmering onyx".  Then I came across the Physicians Formula section.

What initially attracted me to it was that it was a strip of various pretty colors, then I realized that there were different strips made specifically for brown, blue, green and hazel eyes.  Fascinating!  I searched out the one for brown eyes and it turns out that there are two different Shimmer Strips for brown eyes; the regular and the smokey one.  I like my eyeshadow dark, so I went with the smokey.  Plus, the darkest shade on that palatte was exactly what I was looking for.  It was only $11 for a strip of nine shades, reasonable considering that my staple CoverGirl single-shade palette is $4, and I often spend $15 or more for single-shade eyeshadows for brands like MAC and Shu Uemura.

As you can see in the picture, there are nine shades that can be used individually or blended, but they're actually lined up so that they're trios of trios.  It also comes with an angled sponge applicator.  Each trio has a light, medium, and dark shade.  The directions suggests to apply the medium shade to the eyelid up to the crease, then use the darker shade to line the upper and lower lids as well as the crease, then use the lighter shade above the crease and at the inner corner of the eye.  I tried out all three of the suggested variations and they're all fabulous and do compliment my eye color!

What I love about this Shimmer Strip is how I can mix and match shades that compliment each other, as well as have my choice of shadow, highlighter and liner all in one palette.  This one palette pretty much takes the place of the five products that I had previously use.  These shadows are a bit harder to apply than the premium brands, so I would suggest using a primer if you want a more dramatic look.  My only other complaint about this palette is that I wish the angled sponge applicator were double ended.  It would only make sense since there are nine different shades on this palette, which makes it very easy for the colors to be contaminated, but I can always get separate sponge tip applicators.

I've only had this product for a week, but I think I've found my latest beauty obsession and possible cosmetic staple.  Oh, and did I mention that this is made in Italy?  Fanciness!

U know what, I still think Beauty business is a good one to be in! It's fascinating, as with the weddings related business. You should know that since you're a jeweler...

Oh, beauty biz for sure is a good one to be in! Everyone wants to put their best face forward no matter when and what. I wish I could say the same about weddings and jewelry though. I don't think they've taken that big of a hit compared to some industries, but in this economical downturn, it's clear that people don't need the most lavish weddings or biggest diamonds anymore!

Tells that to some of the Chinese in Shanghai & Beijing! It's probably a matter of which market to tap. True, the world demand as a whole is no longer as strong, but hey, gold is over 1000 bucks! May not be the most lavish or the biggest, but I think it's a fun industry to be in. At least to me, it's meeting happy people, rather than some places like in the dentist or operating ward!
