Everyone is MAD for PLAID

I'd have to thank Mary-Kate Olsen and her NYU days to CollegeFashionista love for plaid. It wasn't until MK was running around Manhattan in oversized plaids, half way buttoned, with loads of gold necklaces, that I even gave this trend a thought.

Now, of course, I have an entire section in my closet dedicated to my worn in, oversized plaids. I think I could own 100 plaid shirts and never get sick of this trend.

I spotted three CollegeFashionistas all wearing plaid in different styles to fit their body type and look. Lucky for us, WWD states that Fall 2010 is all about the plaid.

Thanks for sharing, Amy, I'm diggin' plaid, too!  A couple of years ago, I went to Asia and these plaid shirts were all the rage there, so I ended up picking a few up to test the waters.  Then I come back to the States and a few months later, lo and behold, they're all the rage here, too!  It's no longer grungy :P

How do you wear them?  Mine are oversized, so I put on a cinch belt around my waste, have a pair of short shorts or mini skirt underneath, patterned tights, and heels.  I wear it as a dress pretty much.  It's a cute combo that you should try if you haven't already! :)

Vintage plaid and flannel is in when it comes to winter wear and this isn't the early 90′s, grunge flannel. This is cute, cozy and eye catching flannel!      Eastland has a new pair of ankle boots in stores with an adorable plaid design. In addition to the vintage buffalo plaid design, these boots are functional, with slip resistance and athletic sole technology.      You'll feel warm and luxurious in Ralph Lauren's cotton, silk, and wool …

About this topic

Wiki

Plaid is a Scots language word meaning blanket, usually referring to patterned woollen cloth. It is unclear if the Gaelic word Plaide  came first.

    * A plaid or full plaid is a pleated cloth worn with the modern kilt, made from the same tartan and worn cast over the shoulder and fastened at the front.

    * The belted plaid or great kilt is an earlier form of the kilt.

    * A plaid rug is a large thick woolen twill cloth, often tartan, used as a travel rug or as a blanket.

    * "Plaid" is also used as a synonym for tartan or, in the USA, any checked cloth.
