Right now, Mayweather's record stands at (45-0-0) and he could retire undefeated within the next two years or thereafter. He will have at least 5-6 fights which may include people like Timothy Bradley (30-0-0), Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1), Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2), Canelo Alvarez (rematch) (42-1-1) or even the undefeated Danny Garcia who would have to gain a few pounds to fight Mayweather.
Now, most boxing enthusiasts agree that Bradley will fight Mayweather after 1-2 tune-up fights. Bradley is a heavy hitter and he could pull an upset with a lucky knockout punch like Marquez did with Pacquiao. Otherwise, Mayweather would outpoint Bradley on the cards because of his superior defense and timing skills. Nonetheless, someone has to fight Mayweather and Bradley appears to be the most likely choice. Garcia could fight Mayweather; however, he like Canelo has much less experience. Nonetheless, Garcia has very fast hands which might compete effectively despite Floyd's edge in this important area.
Marquez lost to Mayweather already. He's older than him by 4 years yet he knocked out Pacquiao in their last fight and really won the fight before that despite the fact that Pac was awarded the decision two fights ago with Marquez. Marquez is a wild card because he hurls himself against opponents and throws many effective punches to the body. It would be interesting to see whether or not Floyd would be forced to trade with Marquez or perhaps use his superior footwork to outpoint him.
Manny Pacquiao is an interesting opponent for Floyd because Manny has superb timing too. A match with Mayweather would be a lengthy duel for points on the card, although either men could get knocked out in a surprise lucky punch. This is another fight which fans really want to happen sometime in the future.
That leaves us with Saul Canelo Alvarez in a rematch. To prevail against Mayweather, Canelo must have a winning strategy which includes vastly improved timing. It's possible that Canelo could break down Mayweather by hitting his arms constantly with power punches; however, Floyd would make adjustments as he did in the most recent fight.
Right now, Mayweather must get back to training and maintaining his considerable skills in anticipation of an upcoming fight which could happen before the year end '13. Potentially, Floyd could make up to $200 million or more prior to his retirement in the coming years. His only future challenge will be to hold onto his money and invest it wisely .
