Hardcore old school style kung-fu flick.

Ong-Bak is a throwback film to the yesteryear of the glorious reign of Shaw Brothers action films and the rising productions of Golden Harvest. This is a straight forward, hard hitting no holds barred type of kung-fu film that pulls no punches. I miss these films and I'm glad to see this one has finally made it to the big time. Instead of burying or putting films like these on the independent or art-house circuit, it's finally available for the mass market.

The movie is about a young villager who must bring back a religious relic that a former resident stole for financial gain. Ting, a extraordinary fighter leaves his hamlet to head off towards the city of Bangkok and find a cousin of his who left is impoverished country life to seek his fortune in the big metropolis, Ting doesn't know that his cousin is a rascal who's involved in all kind of scams and bad dealings with the local syndicate. Can Ting find his village's idol and restore spiritual order within their tight knit community? Will Ting be able to handle himself in the big city as well?

If you love action films or the kung fu genre this is a do not miss. The film is in Thai with English sub-titles. The movie hasn't be tampered with that much. Don't be turned off by the fact that this is a foreign film. It's in the original language so the audience wont have to suffer with cheesy dubbing and shoddy editing. I guarantee you will not be disappointed

Muay Thai has its day in the sun in the flick and Tony Jaa is sensational! Watching martial arts flix I always used to wonder why fighters didn't use their elbos and knes more ofter, so I was in heaven when I saw this flick!
