Varis, risen from street urchin "gutterscum" to the position of Mistress of Amenkor, prepares the city for its last stand battle against a devastating enemy. While suffering from some of the typical plot development and pacing problems of the middle book in a trilogy, THE CRACKED THRONE is a good read and will be enjoyed by any lover of the fantasy genre.
