I just went this past weekend with my sister and her boyfriend to see Tim Burtons 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. I will admit that I went into this moive with ALOT of secptism. I am very familer with Tim Burtons works and I don't really think he has done anything all out amzing since The Nightmare Before Christmas.
So needless to say I went into this movie expecting another horrid spectical like Willy Wonka. By the end of the movie I found myslef eating my own words!!
This movie was 98% Amazing. For all of the computer animation and green screen that was used in this moive you could hardley even tell. Mia, the actress who played Alice, did a wonderful job making you believe that everything was really there.
The movie plot picks up 13 years after Alice's original trip down the Rabbit hole. Now she is back once more, this time to save the day. The plot line has all of the old favorite charaters that made the book a classic int he first place.
However, It might have done better for Tim Burton to pick up the original and redo it or maybe just do Through the looking glass first. if you are not an avid reader of the classic books some parts may leave you confused and wondering what happened. Like why the Chesiher Cat was to blame during the tea party.
Another point of frustration was the obvious relationship between the Mad Hatter and Alice. In many scences there is a clear spark between the two. And while the original script had this relationship written into it, Burton cut it at the last minuet. Some of the original scenes are still included though.
Over all I would highly recommend this movie as a great way to pass the time!!

You'd think that Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland would be a perfect combination right? I actually did like most of what Tim Burton did with the movie, seeing as I was never terribly attached to the Disney one in my childhood, but I can definitely see why fans of the original film may be disappointed. One year for Chanukah when I was a little girl, my parents bought me a collection of "the classics". Most kids would probably have been disappointed, wishing instead for the new Barbie or video game, but I've always loved to read so I was ecstatic. You know, I don't pay much attention to professional movie reviews so when I read on Twitter that the critics trashed Alice in Wonderland, I was a little surprised. Especially since my 4 year old and I watched it 4 times in a row! Yep, you read that right. There's a lot of criticism focusing around Tim Burton at the moment and it's spiked at the release of this film. The major criticisms directed at Burton focus on his lack of any original ideas and the re-casting of the same actors in every film he makes. Johnny Depp is a great actor; I don't think anybody would deny this, but to cast him in almost every movie made by Burton is just insane and has become repetitive to the point it's becoming damaging to Depp's career.
