New York Pizza & Pasta is a chain of Italian restaurants, but this review is specific to the location on Neches Street in downtown Beaumont, TX. I've been there on two occasions and both times were excellent.
On my first visit to the restaurant, I had my wife, two children, father-in-law, sister-in-law, her boyfriend, and two other friends with me. We arrived near closing time and almost opted to leave for the simple fact that it was very late. The staff insisted that we stay and that our being there wouldn't be a problem. That action by the staff made me like them immediately. The hostess sat us down at a large table and we ordered our drinks. I grabbed a coke, but my wife and sister-in-law each got an Italian soda. Those drinks looked good, but I didn't get to taste them.
Now I must admit that I am not a big fan of Italian food. It isn't that I've tried to learn and love it, I just can't find many dishes that I enjoy outside of your standard pizza and spaghetti. Well, on this visit, I found out that chicken parmesan cooked correctly can be a good thing. I loved it. My wife got ravioli and we ordered a small pizza for the kids. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
To top it all off, we were the last group of people in the restaurant and they started to take things down around us while we finished eating and visited awhile. Our waiter came out and talked and joked with us for a very long time. When he heard that my daughter takes dance lessons, he asked her if she knew how to salsa. Soon enough, he and a number of the other waiters and cooking staff were dancing with my daughter at the table. It was hilarious and made my daughter's evening.
It was an early Saturday evening that found me on my second trip to New York Pizza & Pasta. Myself and my family (along with my father-in-law and sister-in-law again), were welcomed and seated promptly next to the jazz piano player who, during her breaks, would visit each table and talk to guests. She noticed how my daughter would dance in her seat while she played the piano and once again, my daughter was treated to music specifically for her.
I can't recall what my wife had on this second visit, but I had shrimp over pasta (don't remember the name) and it was delicious. The kids opted for pepperoni pizza and I managed to steal a couple of bites of it. It wsa very good.
Our waiter was super friendly yet again, but we didn't end up having him or the cooking staff dance for us, as we were there quite a bit before closing time.
In short, both of my experiences at New York Pizza & Pasta at 790 Neches Street in Beaumont were excellent. They have some of the friendliest staff that I've ever encountered and wonderful food. On certain nights of the week, live music is often performed. The atmosphere is classy but laid back. The lighting is dark, making for the perfect couple's night and if you get there just before closing, you might just end up dancing in the restaurant.
