Featured on Travel Channel's Man Vs Food. Pappy's Smokehouse is one of the hot spots for BBQ food to visit when going to St. Louis, MO.
Great BBQ Ribs must always have the meat fall out the bone easily, and Pappy's does it perfectly. while i haven't tried the other meats, but they're actually pretty good from what my co-workers that went with me said. I've ordered a full rack and devoured it all. If you have a big group, then go for the Big Ben or the Adam Bomb (full slab with quarter chicken with pulled pork and brisket with 3-4 sides and an extra item i forgot). The sauces that compliment the meat are sweet to not that spicy.
As for the sides, the Cole Slaw has the sweet vinegar like taste (doesn't have the white color from what other cole slaw sides provide). The sweet potato fries may be a hit or miss, but it's very sweet with cinnamon on top. I have not tried the other sides, but they're equally worth it.
As for the experience, prepared to take a 30 minute to 1 hr waiting line that extends to the outside of the restaurant, seating is pretty limited. In addition, if you come in at the late afternoon, then half the food will run out for the day (they prepare it fresh every day, rain or shine). Once you order, food is served very quickly to your table to feast on!
Also, order a Fitz's Root Beer while you're at it, it's a St. Louis exclusive soda, they're sold everywhere around the city.
Aw, this sounds so good! I'll have the catch the episode that features this joint. Good tip on the line. I'd assume the crowd would get even bigger because of its feature on the show!
