For years I shunned Dunkn Donuts. I never found anything special about their coffee (so many people rave about it) which is no where as good as Seattle's Best or just about any New York Deli coffee (at least in many of these places I can choose exactly how much milk/half & half I put in my cup). The donuts made me feel like I was eating sweet Play Doh (I am not a fan of the donut).

However, I have had to go there for members of my family and other times when I am driving and need something, they are the quick fix on the road. I have since discovered one of their cold drinks (I think it is called a Mocachino. I can never remember it but I know it when I see it) that comes in vanilla bean that is actually an excellent tasting vanilla shake. I also noticed that they started offering egg white sandwiches though on the same not so good bagels. These sandwiches actually taste pretty good despite the fact that the egg what is already made, looking like something that used to come in my daughters Playskool kitchen.
These two items are things that I can get if there are no options and Dunkin Donuts is the only game in town. Other than that I try to avoid this place at all costs.

Hey Michael! This is an interesting review, as I have been a DD fanatic for as long as I can remember. Strange thing... Over the last few years, I have come to love their coffee less. In fact, most cups I get there nowadays are just plain awful. I prefer brewing my own at home. I never touch the Coolatas (after reading the nutritional facts on these babies!). Coming from a line of donut entrepreneurs (seriously - it's in the family - homemade with love, not manufactured) I can agree with you 100 percent that DD donuts are hideous. ;-)

I think the drink you are talking about is a Vanilla Bean Coolata. I do love Coolatas as well. As for the coffee, compared to other premium coffees that are available these days Dunkin' Donuts coffee does not compare as favorably as it used to. Years ago their coffee really did stand out in the marketplace. And people are extremely loyal to it in the Northeast.

That's it Paul, Coolata. Thanks for jarring my memory. I never cared for their regular coffee though. The people working there never seem to be able to fix it with the correct amounts of milk and half and half that I like.

Here in Rhode Island Dunkin' Donuts is everywhere! You will find shops on downtown streets, in strip malls, at interstate exits and even in supermarkets and gas stations. As a former New Englander, living in California, I often mourn the loss of their Donut shops on the West Coast! Fortunately, the coffee is now available in our stores, but not having the combination of a lemon filled donut to go along with that coffee is un-American! The Dunkin' phenomenon was one of the more mystifying things about living in Boston. In a city where you're never more than a 15 minute walk from truly excellent coffee, 10 minutes from a quality bagel, or even 5 minutes from a Starbucks, I was never able to understand why people loved it so much. Yes, I'm giving Dunkin' Donuts a very high ranking (in fact, THE highest). Let me explain: I grew up in San Francisco where, as far as I know, there are no Dunkin' Donuts. Dunkin Donuts is my favorite coffee chain. Their coffee is ten times better than Starbucks, and they have great flavored coffee if you're into that. William (Bill) Rosenberg, founder, opened the first Dunkin' Donuts shop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Dunkin' Donuts licensed the first of many franchises in 1955.
