I have never met Henry Weinhard, and since he is (likely) dead, I probably never will. If I could write the epitaph for his grave it would read simply, "This man invented the world's greatest Root Beer". I know it sounds dramatic... but it is a dramatically good root beer!
Henry Weinhard's Root Beer (from this point on it will be simply referred to as "HWRB") is both creamy and smooth, not-too-sweet, but certainly not bitter. The ingredient list references honey and other natural sounding things. In truth, it could list battery acid and moth balls and I would still drink this stuff. It is that good.
I do have one not-so-small beef with HWRB - they don't sell it in North Carolina. While my love for HWRB is complete I really have a tough time justifying trips to Oregon everytime I want a bottle. You could call this a long-distance romance.
So tonight, I will pop-open a substandard root beer (A&W, Faygo, or Barqs) and toast to the time I was in a location where I could experience true greatness.
In summary - this stuff is pretty good, buy it if you happen to see it at the store!
