Food Network is a brilliant concept due to one simple fact: we all eat. Maybe we don't all wanna watch "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?" on LifeTime. Perhaps a few don't want to see pundits scream on CNN. I know I have no interest in anything ESPN has to offer. But we all need food- and so, Food Network is the network for the masses.

There are some really great personalities on Food Network. There's a chef for every home-cook's taste. While Aida might get on my nerves, others really love her. And it's not all your momma's cooking show, kids. Sure, there's 30 Minute Meals and Paula's Home Cookin'... but there's also tons of contest-type shows and everyone's new favorite genre: reality tv!
Some of my faovorites:
Ace of Cakes. This is that show that makes me text my bestfriend. We have a plan: I'm going to marry Duff and she's going to marry Geoff. Mary Alice will be our new BFF. There's drama, excitement, creativity, humor and cake! How could you not love this show?
Throwdown with Bobby Flay. I love that Bobby loses almost as often as he wins. The show works because there's no way for the underdog NOT to win: Bobby's at a disadvantage as he learns how to make a new dish and then goes up against someone who's known for making the best! The opponent is going up against BOBBY FLAY and doesn't know it!
Chopped. Contetents have 30 minutes to make a dish with "mystery ingredients"! Make an appeitizer using baby octopus, bok choy, oyster sauce and smoked paprika! The drama! The crazed interviews! The mean judges! The tears! It's so good.
AND.... Ultimate Recipe Showdown... Good Eats... Iron Chef America.... what's not to love?

Good point! My biggest gripe with Food Network these days is that most of the shows I wanna watch come on at 8am Saturday morning! Jamie at Home is one of the best and most inspiring shows I've seen. I learn more watching that show than any other! I also loooove the Barefoot Contessa. Filet Mignon with butter and gorgonzola cream sauce? INSANE!

I stopped watching the Food Network when Emeril moved on to Planet Green. Maybe I'll head back over to see what I've been missing ... I could use a little Iron Chef in my life!

What is it about watching people cook that can be so comforting? I don't know but sometimes watching Paula, Rachel et al, hits the spot.

What happened to all the good cooking shows with chefs who really had the chops? It's frustrating to always find a show on kitchen shortcuts or "how it's made" type fare on the food network. I miss Mario Batali, Melting Pot, and heavens, I can't believe I'm saying this, even Emeril!

If I had to rate the channels that I watched in order, I think that the Food Network would be #1 or very close to the top. I must say, I get a real kick out of watching people compete to make the best hamburger or the fanciest looking cake! Great I'm hungry now and I still have 20 minutes to go before I got home... I listed Rachel Ray to the right, because she was probably the reason I started to watch the Food Network. 30 Minute meals and $40/day were to of my favorite shows to watch. … more
