A dish of Italian origin, made with an oven-baked, flat, generally round bread that is often covered with tomatoes or a tomato-based sauce, mozzarella cheese and assorted toppings.
< read all 22 reviewsWhenever I have unexpected guests over, I make this pizza on the spot. It's so fast and simple, but looks fancy in that rustic-Italian-country sort of way. The flavor combination is classic, works for vegetarians, and there are only four ingredients. Basically: It's no fail!
Ingredients
Flatbread (The pita-like bread. I like Kontos brand, especially Onion flavor.)
Bottled marinara or spaghetti sauce (can be any brand and variety — I prefer Newman's)
Goat cheese
Fresh basil leaves (put some on pizza, but set some aside for after pizza comes out of oven)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400 F. Put a thick layer of spaghetti sauce on the flatbreads. Crumble up goat cheese and sprinkle a generous amount on top (do not completely cover the pizza; too overwhelming!). Put on a couple of fresh basil leaves, immersing them in the sauce so they don't dry out too quickly.
Bake for approx 15 min.
Take out of oven. Cut into slices. If you've got any left, put any fresh left-over basil leaves on top of pizza. Optional: crack some black pepper. Bask in the compliments.
