One size does not fit all, Aquaglobe company!

So, I bought some Aquaglobes for myself and for a gift to my kids who leave their hanging pots alone for a week at a time. They're a good idea but....
First, I didn't know that they were glass -- breakable glass. Carrying two or more out to the garden is a worry, because I'm afraid they'll break and I'll have glass in the lawn.
Second, they only come in one size. I estimate that they contain maybe a pint of water each. If someone is going away for a week during the hot summer months (which is when you'd need an automatic watering container as this purports to be) a pint won't be enough.
Third, each of the globes costs at least $5, so you can't buy enough to keep the pot watered.
Fourth, when you stick the globe into the soil, sometimes the end gets full of the soil and the water doesn't drain.
SO -- why aren't there options to this device (except for buying all new self-watering pots for a lot of money).

I suggest having the globes made of plastic so they aren't breakable.
I suggest that the globes be larger to contain more water.
I suggest someone come up with an idea to make sure the soil doesn't cake up in the stem of the globe.

I suggest that it rain at least twice a week during the summer so I don't need to worry about this!

Thanks for the review. I always wondered about these. We go on weeks long trips and we always have issues with plants. I thought these might work for us, but it sounds like these are no good... I do like your last suggestion the best. Hahaha.

I've seen these in those As Seen on TV commercials!  These seemed like a great idea at first, then a bit into the commercial, it said that it was made of glass.  A glass bulb in a hanging house plant?  That sounds like an accident waiting to happen.  Even worse if I have pets crawling around.  I agree with your suggestions!  Thanks for this great review :)
