This is probably the best way to describe this book. Few books are so accessible to such a wide variety of readers. Everyone I know who has read it loves it; guys, gals, adults, teenagers, children, high school teachers, sci-fi fans, literature professors, and people who've never read a book in their life. The book has everything; comedy, tragedy, drama, irony, comeuppance, action, suspense and terror. This book to children's literature is like Star Wars to movies; you mix in all the tried-and-true …

After seeing the first three films and with all the fanfare surrounding the latest release, I finally decided to pick up the first book in the "Harry Potter" series. I won't waste any time on describing the plot of the book, since most folks already know the gist of the whole thing thanks to the films.    What I want to address is the fact that this really is a wonderful book for kids to pick up. It's full of adventure and fantasy that's sure to spark any young mind into the …

Excellent book for kids of all ages. This is a well written, well thouht out book. Ms. Rowling has an excellent command of our language. The story line keeps the pages turning. This is a great start to a great series. I have meet and talked to very, very few people who did not actually enjoy the book, i.e. those who actually read it. Highly recommend this one. Am looking forward to more.

Pros: Wizards, witches, flying broomsticks, goblins, dragons, humor... fantasy for everyone!     Cons: Some parents may be wary of the whole magic scene, but no worries, I promise!     The Bottom Line: This is a fantastic book for children and adults alike! Enjoy this book with your child or parent!     Okay, so I've finally began the Harry Potter series. I saw the movie and decided it was time. For those of you who have been living under …

It's now been some years since the "Harry Potter" books first came out. Unless I am mistaken, book # 5 is due on shelves soon. In addition, two major motion pictures have now been produced.During this time, I have been repeatedly asked, as a parent, as a clergyman, and as a student of fantasy literature, what my "opinion" of the series is. After having read all four books, and having seen the first movie, I am now prepared to comment. Some people, especially those in the conservative Christian camp, …

I was unable to figure out what all the fuss concerning Harry Potter was about. As a fan of fantasy and someone who works with children, I made a promise to read the first book in the series and discover myself what the fuss is about. I have finally fulfilled that promise to myself and have been made to understand.HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE is not a great piece of literature, nor will it change your life or make you a wonderful person. However, it is a great story filled with wonderful …

My 7 year old daughter and I have enjoyed this book, reading a chapter each night before she goes to bed. It is absolutely delightful, and gives children the opportunity to really become immersed in the finely drawn characters and their adventures in a way that few children's books achieve. Do yourself and your children a favour - read it! Aloud preferably, and with appropriate accents for the characters.
