The following is from Amazon.com Designed by a team of dermatologists along with Olay, the Advanced Cleansing System is as effective as a system sold by a skin professionals for nearly $200.* Plus, the Pro-X Advanced Cleansing … see full wiki
There is a lot of talk these days about "sonic cleansing" for the face; kind of the same concept as a sonic toothbrush. Lots of options out there; products from Sephora to QVC to HSN! The most popular cleansing tool these days seems to be the Clarsonic. This is a sonic brush device that you can recharge on a base. It comes with 2 facial brushes, a body brush and small sizes of cleansers and exfoliating products (apx. 1 oz sizes). Sonic cleansing is used by dermatologists and is known to clean the skin 6 times better than regular cleansing either manually or with a regular rotating or vibrating brush device, plus it makes your skin's moisturizing treatments more effective. The trouble with this device is that it is expensive; a kit can start at $195.00 and go all the way up to $225.00 and higher. Reading the reviews was a little disappointing. Lots of consumers had problems with the device recharging properly and had to return it. Then there is the big decision about whether to pay this high price for a tool, then you have to turn around and buy the replacement brushes (they last anywhere from 1 - 3 months) for a whopping price of $25.00 per brush or $40.00 for 2 brushes (plus S&H). This seems like an outrageous price to me! Realizing I am getting much older and my skin is not looking much better even though I use good quality products on my skin, I decided to give the Olay ProX a try.
The price of this system is only $29.95 at Walmart and includes the tool, batteries and a small tube of Olay ProX Exfoliating Cleanser. It comes with 1 brush, and replacement brushes at Walmart are only around $10.00 for 2 brushes (I can do that!) as opposed to $40.00 for the Clarsonic. It is not rechargeable like the other brand, but I don't care. I would rather replace batteries than have problems with a rechargeable base. It is waterproof, so it can be used in the shower if you wish. The device is small, light and easy to handle. It has 2 speeds and is easy to push the buttons. So far so good....
Does it clean effectively? Did it make a difference in my skin? Oh my yes!!!! I was surprised actually how effective this sonic tool is! I have large pores, and my combination skin tends to get oily but will easily get dry if the right product is not used. This system has made my pores visibly smaller, and my skin feels tighter and smoother. The exfoliating cleanser that comes with it is very good; not too rough on the skin and it lathers like crazy. (I don't know if the cleanser would be appropriate for very dry skin though) and a full size of this cleanser is only around $6.00 at Walmart. I actually look forward to cleaning my face now because the brush is very soft and gentle, and it feels good when I'm using it! My moisturizer sinks in nice afterward, and all in all I'm tickled to death with it.
I would recommend this to anyone; however if your skin has many breakouts you may want to use your regular cleanser with the brush for a while before using the exfoliating cleanser as it may irritate. I use Philosophy Pure to take makeup off before using the Olay cleanser, and it works wonderfully. If you are not a fan of Olay products, use whatever products you love. If you don't like the system just simply take it back to the store as opposed to having to send the product back to the company and paying extra S&H to do that with the Clarsonic.
I believe for the low price and the effectiveness of this product, it is well worth trying. Now if Olay would come out with a body-sized brush to attach to use in the shower, it would be perfect!
