I really, really wanted to love this. And I can't say I do. Here's why.
Good quality coffee with half and half is one of my vices. I am a coffee snob who French presses and buys fair trade, organic, freshly roasted beans. I don't put in sugar, or syrups or fake sweeteners. I want the marriage of good-coffee-with-cream taste sensation.
MimicCreme isn't nasty. It's probably an okay, even perfect half and half replacement if you don't have the whiny palate I do. There is a subtle nutty taste. An almost aftertaste that is a little oily...maybe...not sure how to describe it. It doesn't look or feel oily, but the aftertaste is unique. The other thing that isn't quite like half and half is that the coffee doesn't go Café au Lait quite the same. It takes more MimicCreme and then it still doesn't quite get there.
But we were motivated to try it. We have gone Vegan (Flexitarian Vegan - for the health benefits) and half and half is no longer a daily or weekly luxury. It is an every once in awhile treat. So I bought MimicCreme with high hopes and expectations. I read the reviews so I knew that maybe my expectations were too high, but I was willing to give it a shot.
Some of the reviews mentioned the packaging/pour spout. Mine was a little frustrating but I believe I read that this was being redesigned...
Bottom line: I have learned to love coffee black. My husband is okay with MimicCreme. He doesn't love it, but it doesn't take away from his daily coffee fix either.
