I received two Earthing Connection Universal Mats as gifts recently and have used them for about two months. In that time, I have not seen any evidence that they have improved or even maintained my health and well-being in any appreciable manner. In fact, I have had a  long lasting cold during that time and even strained my lower back and was out of commission for several days. While laid up, I remained on one of the mats. It don't feel it aided my recovery and I only started feeling better after visiting the doctor and getting some modern medicines. My job has been stressful of late and being in contact with the Earthing Mat for a good part of the day and night hasn't done anything to relieve the effect of such stresses.

I did want this product to work. In the immortal phrase form the X-Files, "I want to believe". I think reflexology, herbology, yoga, massage and some other more "New Age" practices/products have their place in keeping healthy combined with good diet and exercise. I have been sleeping on one of the mats at night and the other is at my desk in my office, where I spend most of my day sitting at a computer. I've followed the usage directions and tested the outlets to which I connected the mats with the provided device. Two orange lights showed that all was as it should be. If the Earthing Mats were going to work, they would have by now. Never when using them have I noticed any positive physiological response.

On the company website they state, "...Earthing does not cure anything. Contact with the Earth helps restores the body’s natural electrical balance and reduce stress and inflammation. By doing these things, Earthing can have both short-term and long-term effects, and sometimes quite dramatic and quick." Well, I have not had less pain or improved sleep patterns. I have an issue with waking up around 4AM and not being able to fall back asleep again for an hour or two. This has not changed. I've seen no change in circulation or energy levels. My fatigue and tension levels remain the same. In short, no effect.

I'm not saying that there isn't anything to the idea grounding your body with the Earth. These mats are supposed to be substitutes for actually standing barefoot on the rock or soil outdoors. This probably does have a positive effect on the body. I know that after some time at the beach and in the ocean, I feel more relaxed and like I've recharged my batteries. But from my experience with the Earthing Mats, they don't accomplish this. They seem well made and look purposeful, and the grounding detector is a neat little device, but for me, they just didn't work.

Hm, interesting and their description makes me very skeptical. I'll just stick to being outdoors, I know I always feel better doing that :)

Great review, Kort! I'm glad you didn't waste any money on these! I think that part of being recharged from being outdoors has to do with fresh air and Vitamin D...thanks for sharing!
