Top Video Games for the Holiday Season...

Video Games are a very important part of Holiday Shopping.  Everyone probably has someone they're buying a video game for.  I'm here to help you decide what game that should be with my list of what I think are the biggest hits right now!
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Clearly the most popular video game out right now as it's sold out at a lot of stores currently. Modern Warfare 2 evolves the amazing war simulator that the original Modern Warfare perfected. Think twice about buying this one for kids though, not one for all ages, but one heck of an amazing game!

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Probably my favorite video game of the year, Uncharted 2 is bound to win some awards. It's not just a video game, but has amazing acting and voice work on top of a flawless game play engine. It's basically Tomb Raider for dudes and is a whole lot of fun. I would say this one is alright for all ages with slight themes of sexuality. Nothing your kid hasn't seen before though. My pick for game of the year!

Batman: Arkham Asylum
This is my runner up to Uncharted 2! What an amazing game! Finally a superhero game done right. With an amazing open world in Arkham and gameplay that completely utilizes all of Batman's strength, this is a must own. For anyone who was a fan of the 90's cartoon, all the voice actors are back for this game including Mark Hammill as The Joker. There is no doubt that this should be up for game of the Year. I'd say it's suitable for most ages.

The Beatles Rock Band
Most likely everyone owns regular Rock Band by now and The Beatles Rock Band is huge title in video games for the holidays and an amazing gift for any Beatles fan. It's even a way for you to get your kids into the Beatles!
interactive DJ video game
Game Informer has given DJ Hero a 9/10 meaning that it's a really solid game which comes as no surprise from the geniuses behind Guitar Hero. I'd actually be very tempted to play this and there is no doubt this would make an awesome gift.
Tony Hawk: Ride
Kids eat up the skateboarding games and the latest Tony Hawk release actually comes with a skateboard controller! While Tony Hawk: Ride hasn't gotten the best reviews, 5/10 from IGN.com, kids don't really care and this makes a great gift!
Band Hero
The latest release in a string of Guitar Hero releases, this game is aimed more at pre teens as the playlist is more pop orientated including songs from bands like Evanescence and Taylor Swift. Another great gift idea for kids.
NBA 2K10 [PlayStation 3]
The better of the two basketball game options, the other being NBA Live 10. 2K10 has gotten better reviews and is superior. While not the newest release, sports games are always popular and make a great gift to those athlete children of yours.
Halo 3: ODST [Xbox 360]
This game got great reviews as the Halo franchise gets bigger and bigger. With awesome multiplayer and a decent story to go with it, this is a must have for anyone's Halo collection.
Need for Speed Shift
After two mediocre releases the past couple of years, the Need for Speed franchise gets its former glory back with Shift. With a crazy amount of speed, Shift is one of the best racing sims out right now and is currently on my Christmas List.
The cover for Madden NFL 2010
This year, give the gift of Madden. While the game has been out for a while, Football season is almost over and people will definitely be having the itch. Madden 10 is the best title in the franchise in 5 years and will help players get over their itch for more NFL action until August.
Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board
Wii Fit is currently one of the most popular titles for the Wii right now and is actually something I plan on purchasing for someone. While this isn't the best gift to buy someone who hasn't asked for it, if someone does, that means they really want it. Wii Fit Plus comes with all the exercises of Wii Fit and then some.
New Super Mario Bros
This is another on my list actually. Another really popular title for the Wii, Super Mario has been revamped for the Wii and is now offers a very new gaming experience from the original. Definitely one for all ages, but great for kids!
Assassins Creed II
Yet another game on my list, I can't wait to play this one. While I was extremely disappointed with the ending of the first game, the sequel looks amazing and I can't help but want to play it. These games do tend to get a little complicated so maybe this is best given to teens and adults.
Wii Sports Resort
My fiance got this for her birthday and it is a lot of fun and great for the whole family. It has everything from archery to canoeing. The title is another popular one for the Wii and makes a great gift for kids and adults alike. You can even play some of these games while Christmas dinner is being cooked!

What did you think of this list?

I was hoping you'd do a list for video games.  I'm stuck on what to get a friend of mine.  I just picked up New Super Mario Bros on November 15 and loved it.  Your three top picks were games I couldn't resist... and I'm still playing regularly.

How about DS games? It's the only modern system that I own, sadly, but when it's good, it's great.
