6 Great Roller Coasters At Disney World

  • Mar 18, 2010
Disney World may not be the king of roller coasters, but they have 6 incredibly themed coasters in their theme parks.

The Disney Coasters separate themselves from your ordinary thrill seeking coasters by the stories they tell to go along with the high speed thrills. No body tells stories better than Disney!

You are not just there for just a thrill ride, you're there to become part of the story.
1
Expedition Everest
Disney's newest and tallest mountain is also its best roller coaster.

The incredible detail that goes into telling the story starts with all of the artifacts that you see in the pre-ride queue. Once you are immersed in the expedition,  you are treated to a  unique roller coaster concept that includes stopping at the top of the mountain and changing direction. The high speed manuevering while going backwards, makes this a top notch thrill ride. Seeing the animatronic Yeti near the end is a great way to finish off this incredible roller coaster.

This has become Disney's Animal Kingdom's signature attraction.

2
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
Pairing Rock 'n Roll with a high speed, mulit-inverting roller coaster was a brilliant idea. Adding the story of rushing along with Aerosmith through Hollywood in a stretch limosine to get to a cross town concert makes for an incredible attraction. This roller coaster really blasts off and gets up to 50 mph in just a matter of seconds. The whole ride is a real rush. A definite must-do attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
3
Space Mountain
Space Mountain just celebrated its 35th birthday, but this recently renovated Roller Coaster still gets top billing in the Magic Kingdom.

The innovative concept to have an indoor roller coaster that operates in near darkness heightens the experience.  Although you never exceed 30 mph, the darkness combined with the sharp turning track makes this ride a thrill for guests of all ages.

4
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Disney's re-invention of the runaway mine car concept  takes design to a new level.  The ride is thrilling, but still appeals to those who are not roller coaster fans.

The detail that went in to make this Disney Mountain is amazing.  Once aboard your ore train, you are part of the story.
5
Primeval Whirl
This fanciful look at the over the top tourist attractions along Route 66 during its heyday is captured in this fun roller coaster at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The excitement for the ride comes from the fact that the "time machine" ride vehicle spins completely around while making its way along the roller coaster track. Sharp turns and changes of direction add to the thrill.

6
The Barnstormer At Goofy's Wiseacre Farm
This special Roller Coaster in the Magic Kingdom's Mickey's Toontown Fair land is noted for being the first roller coaster for many children including mine.

This gentle roller coaster is a great way to expose children to this exciting class of rides.

I totally agree with you on the Barnstormer. I hope to make it my son's first coaster when we get there in the near future.

Rock N Rollercoaster was my favorite, but Expedition Everest is certainly breathtaking--in every sense of the word!

I have ridden Aerosmith more than 10 times and love every time I go. The best ride on the planet!
