About Me

I'd like to share what I know about: Books, Art Supplies, Graphic Novels

I'd like to discover more about: Books, Art Supplies

I'm a student who breathes books. I also have an affinity for anything long and flow-y.

Outside of those, I'm a comics/graphic novel geek and enjoy drawing in various cartoon styles (would you believe I originally started because of Archie Comics?).

The first thing I have to say is WOW. Kaori Yuki's art is just gorgeous, especially her girls. I love seeing her illustrations with those old fashions, too. To summmarize the series briefly, orphan Cain is a 17-year-old earl in Victorian England. Abused in his childhood by his father who later committed suicide, Cain lives with his 10-year-old half-sister … more

Coraline sounds like it should be a very good story; after all, I've heard nothing but praise for author Neil Gaiman, and the recent movie has also gathered positive reviews. And the plot itself sounds interesting: Coraline, bored after moving into her new home with parents that ignore her and trying to escape her batty neighbors discovers that one … more

U.S. cover
"All over the country, a strange phenomenon is occurring. Some teenagers who die aren't staying dead. Termed "living impaired" or "differently biotic," they are doing their best to fit into a society that doesn't want them." So begins the summary on the back cover. The rest of the blurb makes the book sound like a typical … more

Zombie Queen of Newbury High Quick Tip by Karlisle    On February 25, 2010
Cliche, see-through characters, generic and boring writing, and a transparent plot. Give this one a miss.
Code Geass/Lelouch of the Rebellion: St... Quick Tip by Karlisle    On November 21, 2009
Promising premise, but failed. POV jumps around too much, writing is stilted and talking feels unnatural. Best to stick with original anime.

Welcome to Lunch Karlisle! I also love to draw but have never tried cartooning, have you ever read Cartooning the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm? I wonder if you have ever tried the Staedtler fineliner pens, I want to get some myself. Anyhow, let me know if you need anything, I'm always around on Lunch!
