Daniel Byrne is a lead investigator for the Vatican. His responsibility is to check so called miracles to see if they have any validity.

He's assigned to the United States to check on a televangelist who claims to predict the future. He was given this assignment, in part, because the man, Rev. Tim Trinity, is Daniel's estranged uncle. Church officials think it would be easy for Daniel to get close to Rev. Tim.

Tim has also angered another group, the Mob. They think that Tim's predictions on sport's games could bankrupt them and they want him dead.

Daniel investigated the predictions that Rev. Tim had made and found they all came true. He also predicted that something would happen to an oil rig on a certain night and warned the employees not to come to work. Daniel wants to warn the employer of the rig but Rome won't let him because they don't want Rev. Tim to get any more notoriety.

The sorrowful events that follow, strengthen the legend of Rev. Tim and, to Daniel, help to confirm that Rev. Tim might have a message from God.

Daniel tells how he was raised by Rev. Tim after his (Daniel's) parent's died. Daniel seemed destined for the priesthood since childhood but now wonders if he made the right choice.

Tim seems like a good man but since he was a televangelist and ran a con-game, he reminded me of Elmer Gantry.

The story is well told and the various parts come together professionally at the conclusion with an ending that makes the reader think about the message of the book. It's a strong story for people of Faith and those looking for meaning from life.
