A Great Place to Be Underwhelmed

Need a reliable, good, and modestly-priced restaurant close to LAX to relax with friends or family before or after they get on a flight?  You wouldn't think you did, but let's face it. Those of us with cars somehow end up becoming taxi drivers at LMU.  And a place that nobody can complain about, no matter what they are in the mood for, is Truxton's American Bistro.  They have sandwiches, burgers, pizza, pasta, salads, seafood, turkey dinners, beer, wine, martinis.  No need to debate or argue over where they wat to go because everybody can find something that they'll like here.  And they'll be completely satisfied because the food is damn good here.
As I mentioned, this is a great place to take your parents if they're visiting you at school.  The restaurant is not too large and never gets too crowded so you will actually be able to carry on a conversation as you dine.  The atmosphere is what Truxton's defines as "cottage dining." So while you may not be getting a LA experience out of it, you will quickly get use to the friendly setting.  And the setting is matched by the very welcoming, professional, and friendly staff.  It's one of those places where you will know somebody who works there from one place or another.
The great staff is also reflected in the superb customer service they offer.  For example, a party of ten of us showed up for dinner with no reservations.  We were put on wait for about ten minutes with no other customers waiting.  They opened up the separate and empty banquet room just for us in order to get us sat quickly.  We had the entire room for ourselves for the entire meal.
I should also mention that they have a full bar with beer on tap.  They have a good hefeweizen on tap in addition to a great wine list.  I've stopped in before just to get a good, cheap drink at happy hour.  Just take a seat at the bar top, and watch whatever game they're playing on the couple flatscreens they have.
The food itself is just as the advertise: American bistro.  Now, I mean this in the most highest regards possible and with all do respect to Truxton's, but it is like a five star Boston market.  The actual Truxton plates consist of rotisserie chicken, turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and vegetables.  One of the meals I have gotten there before was called the Thanksgiving Dinner complete with cranberry sauce, stuffing, and gravy.  The seasonal specials should also be checked out because they offer some more diversity and experimentation.  The specials are enough to keep me coming back every once in a while, since this is one of those places that is not the first to pop into my head.  But like a friend aaking for a ride to the airport, I can always count on it.
