Since I am a transfer student all of the major and annual events at LMU this past year were my first. One of the best times I had my junior year at LMU was at Madness at Midnight. Every year the entire student body gathers in the gym to watch the basketball team do their first practice at midnight and to celebrate the beginning of the basketball season, a very big deal. This year, and luckily my first year attending this event ASLMU decided to put on a dance after the festivities.
First and foremost the best part of the entire night is the fact that so many students gather together in such a small space, fully dressed in LMU attire to support the basketball team and to be united as one student body. It is a very uplifting event and is the best display of school spirit I have ever encountered. On top of the cheers for certain players and the blow horns going off in general, Iggy the Lion is there to get the crowd even more pumped up. This year it was dark in the gym with a light show spectacular going on to give the space a more clubby and hip feeling.
The dance afterwards was even more fun because we were free to run onto the court and turn a basketball practice into a club/ dance party. All of my friends and I had a blast. Though it is certainly a very late night, since it starts at 10 and goes well after 2 am, it is completely worth the next morning of drowsiness.
