Back when I was looking at colleges to apply to, I came upon LMU as a place that I was quite interested in among other schools like USC, UCSD and CSULB. It was close to home and offered more to learn about myself through the four years I'd spend in college than any of the other programs I looked at. But what really got me to turn in an application (and eventually make my decision) was my first visit to the Sacred Heart Chapel.
This beautiful church has been the center of my entire college experience, just as it is the focal point of the entire LMU campus. Even for people who aren't religious, this can be a place of retreat and peace and quiet regardless if you are attending mass or just looking to gather yourself in the middle of the day. There have been countless times where I have stopped inside Sacred Heart before class, or sit on the bluff that faces downtown to enjoy the view at night. Each time, I find relaxation just by visiting. It's definitely one of my most favorite spots on campus!
The mass service at Sacred Heart Chapel is what keeps me coming back to campus. The services are tailored to the youth community, and the music is full of incredible talent. The priests deliver meaningful homilies that don't sound like lectures, and the atmosphere throughout mass always keeps an open and welcoming spirit. Have you ever gone to mass or church somewhere and felt like such an outsider? Not the case at LMU's Sacred Heart Chapel. It welcomed me as early as when I was a prospective student and has done so all the way to a proud alumni. If I ever move far away from Sacred Heart Chapel, I don't know how I'll ever be able to attend mass elsewhere.
When thinking of what I valued most from attending college here, Sacred Heart keeps me knowing what exactly it was.
