My top 10 favorite Anime series

  • Apr 19, 2010
Dragon Ball Z
The most popular anime series of all time Dragon Ball started a revolution but Dragon Ball Z became the cultural phenomenon that defined a generation the dark yet outrageously funny series has great fights, heroic characters wigged out aliens, and some seriously messed up villains. Most notably Freeza, The Ginyu Force, Garlic Jr. (One of my favorites), Cell (another favorite) and many more DBZ is a series that pushed the boundaries of anime and changed the game forever, every other anime series that has followed has had to live in the shadow of this powerful series.
DN Angel
I have watched many movies that touch your heart in mysterious ways but I have never watched an anime series that has been able to evoke that kind of feeling in me since .Hack:// SIGN. DN Angel is one of those rare anime series that leaps out at you that makes you believe in the unimaginable, that takes you to a place where you never thought possible. It just does not evoke fear and adrenaline like a video game it evokes the feelings of empathy, unrequited love, sadness, suffering, sorrow. A series spans most of every human emotion using it as a means to tell its story and push the series along into the realm of great anime. This is one of the most visually stunning and most breathtaking anime series of all time.
YU YU Hakusho
I always felt that YU YU Hakusho was somewhat a revamped and over stylized, present day set Supernatural detective series that was nothing more than a rip off DBZ. At least that's what I thought at first after watching the first two seasons of this diverse and extremely funny anime series I found that the similarities between it and DBZ, while numerous, made this series even all the more watchable. Mostly thanks to its hot tempered and extremely ferocious lead character, Yusuke Urameshi elevates the series past it is over shadow by DBZ and becomes a funny, fast-paced dark anime series that exceeds all expectations.
Case Closed
One of anime's most quirky and eccentric series "Case Closed" is the most stand out series in anime history but you probably asking why is it at number 4 then? Well simply because the first three series in my list are tough to beat. But "Case Closed: is perfectly suited for the number 4 spot seeing as it is more of a standard P.I. series than anything out of this world like "YU YU Hakusho", DBZ or "DN Angel". What makes "Case Closed" on of anime's most unique series you ask? Well simply the brilliance and care put into the mysteries and the deductive work. It is a show not about whodunit but about how they dunit. It's brilliant and a stand out amongst he other flashier and more visually stunning series "Case Closed" doesn't need the visual flair to be great it just plain does that with it's brilliant writing, witty puns and stark humor "Case Closed is by far one of the best that anime can offer.
.Hack: //SIGN
I do not remember much from this revered series since the first and last time I saw it was in the early 00's preferably sometime in the summer of 2002 or 2004 I do not really remember. What I do remember is that this anime series is the most visually stunning and thought provoking anime series of all time. So yes again another series succumbs to my love of more popular series from m childhood since .Hack: // SIGN was not a favorite of mine when I was a child it did not really stay with me when I got older. So now, almost 7- 10 years later, I watched it again and found that this series works wonders on the imagination, and the mind it's so beautiful and mysterious and grand that while you're watching it you feel like you are right there in the midst of all the chaos. It is so sad, dark and visually stunning that all other anime series shrink in comparison. A show lives up to its reputation and then some.

What did you think of this list?
