Foreign Films We Need to See!

Here are films that I have seen and each left an impression on me that is unique in each case. Some are provocative, some are hilarious and some are disturbing. They are all worth viewing.

The best of the Lina Wertmuller films with Giancarlo Gianinni as a playboy who ends up in a Nazi concentration camp.

Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno)
Pan's Labyrinth
A movie that is both compelling and very disturbing. Was it real or a girl's imagination?

Ran
Japanese tale akin to Shakesphere's King Lear. Amazing directing and great action.

House of Flying Daggers
House of Flying Daggers
The best movie of this type of genre (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, etc.). The directing and colors are amazing. The story is compelling.

Swept Away
Swept Away
Another great Lina Wertmuller film where a peasant is shipwrecked with a noble woman. The woman must acknowledge that the peasant is her superior if she hopes to survive.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python's Holy Grail
The best of the Monty Python films and one of the funniest films of all time. Pure satorical take on the King Arthur legend.

Run Lola Run
Can a woman save her boyfriend from being murdered by a mobster? She must act in a hurry. She gets several opportunities to make slight changes in what she does to try to be successful.

Seven Samurai
The inspiration for The Magnificient Seven, this Mifune 1954 film is timeless.

Bend It Like Beckham
Bend It Like Beckham
A fun tale of an Indian young lady who dreams of being a soccer play clash with her family's traditional values. Great fun and a little bit of Bollywood thrown in at the end.

Salo (120 Days of Sodom)
One of the most disturbing films ever made! A group of youths are captured by wealthy Fascists and forced to do unspeakable things. This movie will leave an unmistakable impression on the viewer.

Great list! I remember hating Seven Beauties when I was a kid. May need a revisit.
