Tv Shows I Currently Follow

  • Dec 7, 2010
With Televison Changing So Much Since My Last List I thought I should put out the current list of shows that I regularly watch.
1
Boardwalk Empire (2010) HBO
This is an amazing production with 1920's Atlantic City recreated. There are a lot of historical figures in this show (Al Capone, Lucky Lucchiano, Meyer Lansky, Ponzi) which adds to the genuine feel of this amazing period piece. It is a good way to learn about prohibition, woman's sufferage, the election of Harding, the Black Sox scandal, etc.
See the full review, "Here's to Nookie and Skirting Prohibition!".
2
Desperate Housewives
It is amazing that my #1 and #2 air at the same time. But the beauty of video on demand lets me see both at my leisure. This show is my one vice (i.e. nighttime soap opera) and it really is quite addicting. It gets goofy at times but at other times it deals with serious issues that face families everyday. The four main families (Meyer, Scavo, Hodge, Solis) never seem to get boring. The show that puts "Wisteria Lane" up there with other famous fictional addresses.
3
Bill O'Reilly
I always love to watch the "no-spin" zone. Bill is the most misunderstood pundit on the air. He is actually middle of the road and does give his speakers that disagree with him, credit where credit is due. With Miller Time and Bernie Goldberg, he has the best supporting cast of the FOX personalities. He is not as pompous as Sean Hannity or boring like Greta Van Sustren.
4
Real Time with Bill Maher
Bill actually seems to be on fairly good terms lately with the other Bill (O'Reilly) and their exchanges are usually priceless. Maher may joke but he has superior insight when presenting his usual left agenda. New Rules is usually hilarious and his opening monologue is usually a lot more funny than Leno or Letterman. His guest panels are way superior to the usually boring Great American Panel on Hannity.
5
Grey's Anatomy Original Titles
The best of the doctor shows. The culmination of last season with the sniper running loose throughout the hospital was the most compelling season finale that I have ever seen!

I love that you admit to watching Desperate Housewives, not many guys do, so it's worth commending :P Never heard of Boardwalk Empire, but that sounds like it's something worth checking out. Thanks for sharing, Michael!

Actually, in my circle of friends, I don't know anyone who watches DH. As for Boardwalk Empire, it airs on HBO. You should read my full review of the show. It is rich in US History from the 1920's.

Great list! I think it's incredibly interesting that you watch both Bill O'Reilly and Bill Maher. As you know, I'm definitely with you on Boardwalk Empire and I haven't had a chance to check out Grey's Anatomy in a while....Thanks for posting!

I am an independent, conservative on some issues (fiscal policy) and more open minded on morality issues. O'Reilly is the only fair pundit to give a conservative view on tv. I also like his guests. Maher is hilarious and gives very cogent arguments for the more liberal viewpoints. Between the two, I am able to better make up my mind regarding different political issues.

That's a good way to make up your own mind about the important issues that are being talked about! I'm middle of the road as well and more towards the middle the older I get LOL....
