Hype it, hype it, hype it more, make it sound great annnnnd it won't live up to expecations. It's happened a few too many times to me.

Heard EVERYWHERE in late 94 and when I saw it after seeing too much hype on TV, holy cow it wasn't what I expected and left me cold. I've seen it a few more times and it has it's moments but can't say I can ever really warm up to it the way I should.

I love the Coen Brothers and after falling in love with Fargo in 1997, this was the first movie of theirs I sought out and it was boring and I plain didn't get it. It's been a while and I should see it again to see if it resonates better.

I may be largely against the death penalty but I really don't see the love that all this movie gets other then it's ABOUT the death penalty which is a hot issue. I can remember maybe one moment in this movie and thats it, for all the hype and love it got.

It got a couple of laughs out of me here and there and it isn't a BAD movie but to me I didn't find it engaging or "fun" the way a movie like this should be.

It's not a BAD movie, it's just not as funny as the show. To be fair, jack Lemmon's Felix is 50x better then Tony Randal's.

I actually do like this movie but does anyone else feel that it REALLY enjoys wallowing around in the depravity that the movie is trying to decry?

Again, it's not a bad movie but I think more people were impressed by the ending then anything else. M Night's Unbreakable had a little more mystery.

The hype was good but the promotionals show it to be more of a guerilla killing spree and it's about maybe only a half of the movie. Still a good movie though.

Deviates from the Bond formula SO BADLY and it really just keeps going and going till your out of breath. Hopefully the next one won't be so millisecond edited and cold.

Kevin Smith continues to pass off Star Wars jokes, witty comic book references and colorful profanity as if it's something new that he didn't do before. Funny it may be but to me Smith has only made one Great movie, his first, the original Clerks.

This is an interesting list to be sure, but I'm one of those people who loved BARTON FINK. In fact it's one of may favorite Coen Bros movies. I think the pacing might grate on some folks. nerves but other than that I don't see what's not to like. I gotta agree about THE SIXTH SENSE. It's a movie that depends completely on the "surprise ending that I saw coming 10 minutes into the Flick. My daughter caught it faster than I did--she got it what she noticed that his surname was'Crowe", the symbol of death. PULP FICTION never did anything for me either, Tarantino is in love with movis, but he loves himself even more. One of the flix everyone else went nuts over that I dislike so much that I actually feel insulted by it is HIGH TENSION (HAUTE TENSION). How many movies tell you 90 seconds into the flick what their surprise ending is going to be? I remember rolling my eyes, throing my hands into the air, and saying thanks a lot for doing that!

I STILL need to see Barton Fink again. I have owned Pulp Fiction to be watched again one of these days and STILL haven't. I'm hoping that my more grown up sensibilities will allow me to enjoy Barton Fink more.

I know that John Turturro is supposed to be a loser version of Clifferd Odets and John Mahoney as William Faulkner.

Yup. Although they've said subsequently that they also mixed and matched a couple of other people into their characters too. My favorite is Michael Lerner who's more or less Louis Mayer of MGM.

I kinda see where you're coming from with # 9 and 10 especially. The films that preceded it were just so cool that it was hard not to expect more from the sequels. Nice list!

I felt a little dirty putting Inglorious Basterds and a few others on here but I got hyped and found the movie(s) lacking in what I was told they would be about.

Thanks for you list. I'm glad I inspired you to actually take the time to put it together. I have the same empty feeling as you on most of your picks. The only two I really like are Clerks II (I may be partial to Rosario Dawson and I loved the sequence on best trilogy movies) though I agree it is not as good as the first one (but what sequel is?) and The Odd Couple. The tv series had a number of years to build up the characters so maybe that is why the movie is not quite as funny.

You had such a good title for your list I just had to use it too. This list with the exception of Pulp Fiction is in no particular order and I don't really HATE any of them but didn't really enjoy any of them either. The Best Trilogy part was fun but it's just more Star Wars talk and Smith has done that to death-and following in his footsteps now That 70's Show and Family Guy among others. I thought the characters in the Odd Couple movie were just fine but it just wasn't the hilarious masterpiece that people think it is. I feel the same way about Young Frankenstein too but have only seen that once. Odd Couple I've seen many times.

I agree. When you put these lists together, you just start typing away at what comes into your head. Most of the effort goes into writing the commentary. Putting them in order is not really important.
