The only one who was actually a friend. Poor Steve. He died so young of pancreatic cancer before the article on him ever appeared in my fanzine THE JADE SCREEN.
I've seen Bobby a couple of times at various dinner theater performances over the years. The last time though was in Tampa where he was doing his Tony award winning show Tru. No matter how tired he gets he always manages to tke a couple of minutes for fans too. The first time was when my daughter was about 10. He was in a lot of pain from a back injury but he was really sweet because my daughter reminded him of his little girl. He even called her and another little girl up on stage to do a scene with him after the show ended.
With or without the Loving Spoonful, Sebastian is more fun than anyone I've ever seen in concert. it's like you're sitting in his living room and he just decided to take out his guitar and sing a ouple of songs.
I've seen Holbrook do his Mark Twain Tonigh show 3 times over the past 30 years and it's been different every single time. Wouldn't it be wonderful to see it yet again?
This was back before he played nice guys. Henriksen was at Fangoria to be inducted into their Horror Hall of Fame. The place was loaded with 20 something males who had everything pierced, but I was the ONLY one brave enough to go up to Mr Scary (as he then was) and ask for an autograph. We spoke for a couple of minutes and he seemed fairly harmless.

Ah Victor Borge is Fantastic, but about Bruce Campbell - yes you do, who on Earth is Bruce Campbell ?
QUEENBFLIXSeptember 23, 2010
I can tell instantly that you, sir, are not a horror movie fan! Bruce is the long suffering star of the EVIL DEAD series which includes ARMY OF DARKNESS.
Ha Ha you are absolutely right I do not enjoy Horror movies, unless they are very old, you know the old Frankenstein and Dracula movies from the 30's.
QUEENBFLIXSeptember 23, 2010
You gave yourself away. Bruce is a modern day icon. Aside from maybe 5 0r 6 films he's relagated mostly to cameos --everyone wants him as a cameo. He's also written a couple of books ("If Chins Could Kill--Confessions of a B-Movie Actor"), and been on several TV series ;Hercules, Xena, and his own The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. which was a great show that never caught on. Currently he's co-starring on a cable show called Burn Notice.
I've since added to my famous people list Stan Lee and Leonard Nimoy! I ordered a photo of myself with Spock, but the company running it screwed up. I still hope to get it but I have little faith in this photo organization at this point.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 21, 2010
I hope that they at least get you a refund if they can't come through with the photo. I've heard that people in your circumstance have had problems getting them to pony up the money when they didn't produce the photo!
yeah, and when they don't answer your emails, that's what bugs me. In looking through the internet I've seen Froggys Photos has had problems with stolen equipment. And they charge extra for a digital copy that costs nothing to reproduce. Well, lucky me they're visiting San Francisco in April and trust me, I will be having a heart to heart with the manager if they don't deliver the goods. At least I have my memory and a handshake of a cultural icon. Thanks.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 23, 2010
They sure now how to rake in the bucks.
ScotmanMarch 23, 2010
Yeah, tell me about it! After I emailed them and said I'd see them when they arrived in San Francisco, then I got an answer. They've been swamped with emails, blah blah blah and are mailing this week. I'm doubtful but willing to wait.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 24, 2010
I wonder how many of those emails they're swamped with are complaints?
This is very cool! I just saw Jeffrey Combs premiere his new one-man Edgar Allan Poe play in Baltimore. I'm definitely going to put together my list soon. We have a few in common!
dcgrrlFebruary 25, 2010
P.S. VERY jealous you met Victor Borge. How did that happen? I remember him from when I was very young. He has made punctuation fun for years!
QUEENBFLIXFebruary 26, 2010
Combs doing Poe! Man I am so jealous! I prsume you've seen the version of THE BLACK CAT he made with Stuart Gordon where he plays Poe in the process of writing that story? That may be where the idea for the show came from. I hope they record it. Punctuation has always been one of my favorite Borge routines too. I was sitting there in anticipation of my daughter hearing it for the first time too. There's nothing like hearing it for the first time! I was just happy that I got to se him in concert, let alone get and autograph and have the chance to speak to him for a few moments.
I didn't know that you actually met Kevin Smith. Awesome. As for the Tannahill Weavers, they have performed around here a few times. In fact, the group from Germany that I'm interviewing next month was greatly influenced by them. I'm glad you set up the data point for that. : )
QUEENBFLIXFebruary 26, 2010
He was in Orlando for a Xena convention. It wasn't easy getting anywhere near him, believe me. There may have been a lot of lesbians there but as one said, he made them all consider heterosexuality. As for the Tannies, they were performing in a very small venue outdoors, which I think is probably the best place to listen to the highland war pipes. In between they'd sit around and drink with everybody and complain about the size and voraciousness of the mosquitoes.
The Xena part, right?: Yeah Kevin Smith was really hot. How many guys could truthfully make the claim that they had lesbians considering heterosexuality by their mere presence in a room?
Count_Orlok_22March 01, 2010
Sounds a little suspicious to me. Perhaps an exaggeration or maybe they meant bisexual women who preferred female partners to male. Still, it's quite funny.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 01, 2010
I'm sure it was a joke, but they were quite gay and Smith was quite hot.
Count_Orlok_22March 18, 2010
By the way, if you like Irish traditional music, you may want to check out Cara. If you watch the video, you should be able to see other live performance footage too. I recently interviewed them and you can read that here.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 19, 2010
They sound pretty good. Rather than ask them about favorite songs, I might have asked them about favorite groups and which musicians or groups might have influenced them the most.
Count_Orlok_22March 20, 2010
I already have that info and will be including it in a future article. I didn't want to ask any questions that would be redundant for either them or me.
QUEENBFLIXMarch 21, 2010
Well that proves it's the logical question to ask.
Count_Orlok_22March 21, 2010
I find it more logical to ask questions to which I don't already know the answer. ; )
QUEENBFLIXMarch 21, 2010
I meant that it's logical because it's already BEEN asked.
Miss Queen B, you need to update this list because I'm just dying to know the back story and how the interactions went! Very cool idea for a list, Karen! :)
Count_Orlok_22February 24, 2010
No kidding. What I'd love to know is how she got to meet all these people!
QUEENBFLIXFebruary 26, 2010
There's no real story. I just go to a lot of conventions and most of the time it's just autograph lines or grabbing them in the hall after panel discussions etc. Steve James I met because he somehow found out about the martial arts fanzine I was publishing and he made no attempt to cover up the fact that he really wanted to be in it even though we only covered Asian films and stars. =) With Bobby Morse we went backstage after a couple of different performances over the years. and just talked. He's a friendly guy. Victor Borge was very old when I finally took my daughter to see him in concert so he wasn't going to be signing any autographs. That meant he'd be going out the back door of Ruth Eckerd Hall. So we just slipped around back and waited outside. Since it was just the two of us he didn't mind signing and talking for a few moments. I'd always wanted to see him in concert.
Thanks for being able to remember. It must have been great for you to meet Bruce Cambell. I think the one person on your list I'd love to meet is Clive Barker. Writers are my favorite and it is awesome to discuss their books with them.
QUEENBFLIXFebruary 26, 2010
I don't care for Barker's books but boy is he a great speaker. Fascinating. And Campbell is always fun although I suspect that he's really more than a little scared of some of his fans. My friend LaVena Kay amd I had to rescue him from this one nut job who just wouldn't go away. We literally had to push him out of the way.
