My Favorite Alien Movies

  • Aug 20, 2009
Need I add that the list is in NO PARTICULAR ORDER OF PREFERENCE?
1
Slither (Widescreen Edition) (2006)
It's not just another version of THE BLOB!
2
Dvd cover
They're alien, they're nasty, and they're lookin' for some southern barbecue in Jet Eller's surprise filled flick.
See the full review, "NIGHT FEEDERS--Good Ol' Boys In A Heap of Trouble!".
3
There's Nothing Out There
Oh yes there is, and it wants to come in! Quick, grab the can of shaving cream!
5
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Have you ever really thought about them and what they were like?
6
The Thing (1982 film)
When it comes to be an interesting critter, Carpenter's version does have it all over the 50's original.
7
Brother From Another Planet
Auteur john Sayles cloaks some powerful statements in the guise of a story about an escaped alien who's being pursued by bounty hunters.
8
They Live
John Carpenter uses alien mind-control to take some swipes at Reaganomics.
9
God Told Me To
Wow, Larry Cohen can really knock it out of the park sometimes. This movie falls into so many categories that it's unbelievable. But whatever category you want to put it into, it's still a must see.
10
It Came From Outer Space
A meteor crashes into the Earth, but it turns out to be an alien spacecraft instead! Are they naughty or nice?
11
Starship Troopers

Let's go squash us some bugs.

12
The Arrival (movie)
For all of you who have ever wondered what we would look like if our knees bent in the other direction.
13
20 Million Miles To Earth

Who said aliens had to be humanoid? Sometimes they're bugs, or blobs, or if we're really lucky, they're Ymirs like in this Ray Harryhausen materpiece set in Rome.

14
Men in Black
Variety is the spice of life and this movie has at least 57 varieties of aliens!
15
Galaxy Quest (1999)
The ultimate fanboy flick and regardless what sex we may be aren't we all really nothing but drooling fanboys at heart?
16
Deadly Spawn
These are nasty little guys--and they've got a VERY big brother.
17
The Blob
Speaking of which, how do we know that this gelatinous critter wasn't sentient? Anyhow Steve McQueen starred in this flick and that's enough to put it on my list!
19
It! The Terror from Beyond Space
Stop me if you've heard this one; An alien lifeform gets on a space ship, starts killing people, hides in the airducts, and is ultimately killed by being blown out the airhatch--oh wait, they didn't have the budget for that, so they had to use simple decompression. The law suits were settled out of court.
20
This Island Earth
Two words--Metaluna mutants!
22
Dune
Why not?
23
Battle Beyond the Stars
A John Sayles' script helps out this Roger Corman version of THE SEVEN SAMURAI in space.

Very nice. I've been watching quite a few alien films lately. Last night I watched a double feature of "Alien Nation" and "Body Snatchers". Lots of fun. Now I'm in the mood for "It Came from Outer Space" and "The Thing from Outer Space".
