How Cool is He! My Favorite Steve McQueen Movies

  • Aug 25, 2010
Queen is held up even today as the King of Cool by kids who haven't even seen a single one of his flix. They're right of course, but it would carry so much more weigth if they knew what they were talking about. Here's a short list of my all time favorite McQueen movies. IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER.
1
Soldier in the Rain
Story of the friendship between career sergeant Jackie Gleason and wheeler dealer McQueen in a southern Army Camp. Scabosis features prominentsly. Adapted from the book of the same name, one of my favorites.
2
Love with the Proper Stranger
A drama with a touch of comedy set in New York, co-starring Natalie Wood. McQueen is an out of work musician who has to face the consequences of a one night stand with Wood.
3
The Reivers
Very loose adaptation of Faulkner set in 1905. McQueen convinces a young boy to appropriate his grandfathers new car and go off to Memphis on a joy ride.
7
Bullitt (1968)
Not the best movie he ever made but just too cool--and he looks great.
8
The Blob
What can I say? I watch it every time it's one the tube.

What did you think of this list?

Steve McQueen would kick Matt Damon and Nicholas Cage's butt up and down the street for thinking they're tough and would just make Ashton Kootcher and Dane Cook cry for thinking they were cool. Steve rocks.

Amen! In fact I think he might come back from the dead and kick somebody's butt from just mentioning Cage's name in the same sentence with his!

He was so great. I love 'Proper Strangers' and 'The Blob,' too!

LOVE seems to be the one movie that no one else has seen. Funny. I would have bet that SOLDIER IN THE RAIN was the most obscure.

I didn't care much for Jackie Gleason or Tuesday Weld in that one, but Steve was always wonderful.

Weld was okay. That's the kind of part she always played. She was great in HEARTBREAK HOTEL, which I reviewed. In it she plays a divorced woman whose teenaged son tried to snap her out of her depression by kidnapping Elvis for her. Love that movie.

I am the poster child for inertia. Where ever I am is where I plan to stay FOREVER.   So much so in fact that it took me decades to understand the punchline about why   the chicken … more
