A remarkably real story with remarkably real characters, "Blue Valentine" is about the ways in which people fall into and out of love.

AMAZING list. Just to see Somewhere on her is enthralling; I'm glad somebody admired that slow, but observant work of art as much as I did.

I'm actually surprised that I responded so well to Somewhere, seeing as I hated Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. I have not yet seen The Virgin Suicides.
Great list, Chris! I still have to check out 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, and 10, but I've heard nothing but great things about them, so I'm definitely looking forward to them. 2010 was certainly a good year! Thanks! ^_^
Now you seem like a full-stature critic. I mean you always had fluid reviews with great point-by-point deliberations, but this list is authoratative. I've been so out-of-the-loop this year. If I did a list, I'd have to cop-out and do only a DVD release ten best, and I'd be revising it throughout 2011 no doubt. I look forward to seeing all these movies. I am kicking myself that I sent 'Winter's Bone' back for time constraints. I lot of indie fans loved it. I love Aaron Eckhart as an actor, and I think 'Rabbit's Hole' will be a real find. I find it affirming that you chose it at or near the top of your list. 2011 will be a catch-up year for me, but your guide is very valuable for at least prioritizing my way back into the game. Congratulations on the list and your year at the movies, Chris. JP ;>)

Thanks, JP. Oh, I wish I were a full-stature critic. In spite of what this list suggests, you'd be surprised by the number of movies I missed this year. I know that there are literally hundreds released in any given year, and that it would be impossible to see them all, but still, I wonder what I've overlooked. Incidentally, "Easy A" was originally on this list at number ten, whereas "Rabbit Hole" was at number one. But then I saw "Blue Valentine," and I knew I had to make a change (although I still love "Easy A"). Also, yes, you should be kicking yourself for sending back "Winter's Bone." :)
Now that's what we're talking about! Saw your # 1 today and it was an excellent movie! I need to see 2, 7, 9 and 8 still. I am surprised Easy A is making a lot of "best" lists! Thanks!

As you can see, a change was made in the list. But don't let that give you the impression that I no longer like "Easy A."

No problem. I got your bulletin; I really want to see Blue Valentine but it is on limited release right now. I am actually waiting on the 2nd week of January to post my final list since I am running out of time to see the movies I need to.
Growing up a shy kid in a quiet suburb of Los Angeles, Chris Pandolfi knows all about the imagination. Pretend games were always the most fun for him, especially on the school playground; he and his … more
