Top 20 Movies of 2010 by Julian Left

  • Mar 4, 2011

This is my personal best 20 films I've seen this year. While all of them delighted me and entertained me in some manner, I must say that movies like, "In a Better World", "Incendies", "Biutiful" or "The Double Hour" are not part of this top simply because I didn't see them by now. 2010 was a pretty decent year for movies but besides a few names... everything else was just good but nothing really charming. It was not the year 2011 or 2012 I expect to be... In other order than that I must name some movies that I liked but did not end up in my top 20: "Certified Copy" with Juliette Binoche, "Get Low" with Robert Duvall, "I Am Love" with Tilda Swinton who gives an extraordinary performance, "The Tillman Story", "Carlos" the "trilogy", "Animal Kingdom", "Love And Other Drugs" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, "Cyrus" with Marisa Tomei, John C Reilly & Jonah Hill, which I think it's one of the most overlooked films in 2010, "The American" with George Clooney, "Easy A" with Emma Stone, "City Island" with Andy Garcia and "The Joneses" with David Duchovny and Demi Moore.

Hope my list is good enough for people to not start a riot and in the end I must say that between all the few great movies that have been released the last year, Inception is the only one who will reach cult status and will generate conversations decades after this. It's a really great movie, a perfect example of Hollywood godly hand in filmmaking. It may have some gasps in the story but everything is so engaging and  thrilling that it doesn't even matter. Inception is my pick for the best movie in 2010 and my pick for the only film that will reach audiences let's say 40 or 50 years from now.

Very nice list, and for the most part, we're on the exact same page. The differences: I unfortunately missed 13, 16, 17, and 18, and I may the only person alive who didn't think 7 was very good (exempting Roger Ebert).
