Favorite Movie Posters

  • Aug 5, 2011
Movie posters are great and hey following that Question posted by Woo and the list I'm taking this from. Heres a list of my favorite movie posters.
1
The Man With the Golden Gun
Yeah the movie kinda sucked but this alternate poster was much more rare, talks of Bond's older foes and featured a looming Scaramanga in the background and lets face it, he was the best thing about this movie.  If you can find an original one of these posters, it will set you back enough to make a nice down payment on a car.

See the full review, "Shine it all you want, fools gold loses it's luster eventually".
2
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Yeah this movie does show up a lot on my lists, but I don't care. Thats just how much I love it. The Enterprise warping to the rescue under fire by TWO Klingon ships, one of them, the cruiser is one of my favorite Star Trek ships, our trio of heroes in the fire. The antagonist again shown in the background. It just looks cool.

See the full review, "Going into retirement full force".
3
Millers Crossing
Showcasing a pivotal moment in the movie, amidst lush green and brown woods with a man begging for his life to the man who holds said life in his hands.  This is just a cool visual.

Watch this film
Just look at this poster:  Go on, stare upon it's beauty.  A monochromiatic poster with a chessy reflection title in a font that isnt appealing of even matching with the movie's mood.  There is no picture of a room about a movie that isn't really about a room and our corpse like lead actor glowers down upon you like a Gargoyle.  Whats not to love?!

6
John Carpenters Escape From New York
The movie is awesome the poster is too. The crumbling head of Lady Liberty behind them as our anti heros fight there way past the prison's psychotic inmates.  The image that graced most of the video cases is similar, but would only show Snake.  This one is better.

7
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
As much as I love this poster, and I DO.  I just noticed a lot of things wrong with it.  X wings don't dogfight in this movie, Leia never wore anything black, the whole poster would indicate that this takes place solely on the ice planet and no Lando.  Who cares.  It's still a cool and beautiful visual.

See the full review, ""Your ruining my movie!"".

Hero
One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong.....We have handsome Andy Garcia and lovely Geena Davis looking up, patriotic and heroic while Dustin Hoffman is unshaven and slovenly admist the sunrise, and HE is who the movie is about.  For a while I loved this movie and I need to see it again.
9
The World Is Not Enough
Another bad Bond movie that gets a cool poster, this time the French version gets the rub since it's far nicer then the largely white poster featuring the same three characters, but movie scenes about on an attractive red and black background which clash beautifully with the beautiful Sophie Marceau, not that Denise Richards is a slouch.  Being the French poster, Sophie also is put more in the foreground here too.
See the full review, "James Bond: "Yes, Yes the world is at stake again, what else is new?"".
10
Black Swan (2010)

Don't stare at this poster too long, or cute and sexy Natalie Portman -WILLEATYOURSOUL ANDSENDYOUTO HELLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice choices. As you saw from my list, I'm drawn to the artwork for all sorts of silly reasons. In your case you seem to have a connection to the film as well.

I've seen everything on here except for The Room, which I have seen most of through various clips and online critics and is one of those movies that I must see one day. I've only seen some of Supervixens. I need to feast on that one day.

I tend to like ti STAR WARS posters, even though I not that big a fan of the films, because they always go for multi-image colorful stuff. I bought an Australian daybill from one of the films that's a really dazzler. I should have it framed one day...it's small enough to actually display. I haven't seen very many of the movies on my two poster lists at all.  =)

Thank you.

You are very welcome.

Great list, John! I love movie posters as much or more than I love the actual movies. 2, 6, and 7 are my favorites on this list. Kirk, Solo, and Snake should make a film together.

6, 7, and 10 are great. I remember liking "Hero" quite a bit when I saw it. Funny how they made a film about the wrong person doing the wrong thing at the wrong time and it still works out in the end.

6, 9 and 10 are my faves as well! Thanks for the list, John! I have to do one myself!

# 5 is awesome.

I wish the images weren't so squished. I don't know why that happened. Thanks for looking.

If you go in and click on the images and then hit the image embed icon, you should be able to alter the size and ratio. Just make sure that the width is no more than 350.

AWESOME list, John! I forgot about Black Swan...it's so simplistically freaky. I also love #6, #7 and the James Bond ones.

Natalie Portman scares me in that movie....
