So That's Who Played That Character Version 3.0: The Ladies Edition!

  • Sep 26, 2011
Since both of my previous "So That's Who!" lists were male dominated, it was suggested to me that I do an all-female list. Well, here it is! You might recognize a few of these faces, but hopefully I've managed to throw in a couple of surprises as well. Enjoy!
Patricia Tallman

I'm sure that fans of Babylon 5 will have no problems recognizing Tallman.  She played Lyta Alexander on that series.  What those same fans and the rest of you might not know is that Tallman has appeared in numerous other television programs and films (primarily action and science fiction) as both an actress and a stunt double!  One of her biggest roles as a stunt double came in the first Jurassic Park film, where she stood in for Laura Dern.

Jennifer Lyons

Whenever a ditzy blonde or potential slasher victim is needed for a film, Jennifer Lyons is usually in the running for the part.  She's been in over fifty films and television programs and almost always plays a less-than-intelligent girlfriend, cheerleader, homewrecker, etc.  She has made typecasting an artform, and always does an excellent job in whatever her role might call for.

You'll most likely recognize her as Bud's girlfriend, Ariel, from Married...With Children, or as Pam Macy from That 70's Show

Theresa Russell
With a career that has lasted for more than thirty years, Theresa Russell has managed to always find work but never broke away from the pack.  She's been in numerous television programs, usually in one or two episode parts, and managed to have a starring role in 2002's Glory Days television series.  One of her most recognizable roles was as Emma Marko, Sandman's bitter wife, who chastises him at the beginning of the film for his many mistakes in life.

Cherie Johnson
She has appeared as the best friend of leading ladies in two of the most beloved programs in television history, Punky Brewster and Family Matters, but hasn't managed to break out on her own....yet.  Cherie Johnson is best known as Punky Brewster's best friend, Cherie, from the program that made Soleil Moon Frye famous, and as Laura Winslow's best friend, Maxine, on Family Matters.  She has appeared in small roles in other television shows like The Parkers and has roles of varying importance in a number of films, but I believe that Johnson's best work is still ahead of her.

Orli Shoshan
If any actress on this list could kick your rear, Orli Shoshan would be the one.  She can kill you with her looks and her hands.  Why?  For starters, she's a model.  Secondly, she served in the Israeli Army before become said model.  Why is she on this list?  She's Jedi Master Shaak Ti, from the Star Wars prequels.

Chelsea Field
While she's had prominent roles in many short-lived television series, as well as small roles in major programs, Chelsea Field will always be Teela, from the cult classic Masters of the Universe, which featured Dolph Lundgren and Courtney Cox in one of her earliest roles.

Katharine Isabelle
Horror fans will have no problem figuring out who Katharine Isabelle is.  If you're a werewolf movie fan, specifically Canadain werewolves, you'll recognize her as the title character of the cult classic Ginger Snaps films.  She's also had roles in horror flicks like Freddy Vs. Jason and the brilliantly bad Snoop Dogg flick, Bones

Her career has spanned a number of genres and has had roles in programs and films as varied as The L Word and The Chris Isaak Show, but she always manages to find herself back in roles that fall under the horror or science fiction category.

Linda Hunt
Yes, I know that adding Linda Hunt to this list might be a bit of a stretch considering her long and brilliant career, but while almost everyone will recognize her face, how many of them will actually know her name?  Hunt won an Oscar for her role as a man...yep, a 1982's The Year of Living Dangerously.  She also portrayed Shadout Mapes in Dune.  One of her most recognizable roles is probably Judge Hiller on The Practice.

Hunt is a very versatile actress, having portrayed multiple characters across all genres.  She's one of the few character actors who commands as much attention from viewers as the "stars" of the films that she is in.

If you've never seen Hunt in action (and you probably have but don't realize it), be sure to check her out!

Siobhan Fallon-Hogan
Saturday Night Live fans will recognize Siobhan Fallon-Hogan.  She was on that program from 1991 to 1992.  However, SNL was just a springboard for a career that has turned into a steady gig as a prominent character actor.

She's the actress I always see in films and say, "Hey, that's Siobhan Fallon!," and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy.  I absolutely love her work.

She has had a number of bit (but memorable) roles in films like Men In Black, Baby Mama, Daddy Day Care, and Forrest Gump.  She has also made quite an impact on the small screen on shows like Seinfeld and Rescue Me.

Of all the actresses on this list, Fallon-Hogan and Linda Hunt are the two I most recommend to check out.  They are brilliant!

I've seen Linda Hunt play in many roles; she's that teeny tiny lady, and I think she's great - and you're right, she does seem to grab your attention no matter how small her role is. Nice list...

The pictures are well done.

Great list! I'm glad you did a female version of this list. Each of these lists educate me or places a name on an otherwise nameless face.

Aw, Rosie! :)

Good list. You just reminded me why I've actually sat through the dreadful "Masters of the Universe" film. LOL! I'm surprised you didn't include Zoe Bell for her stunt work on "Xena: Warrior Princess" and "Kill Bill".

It looks like you might need to make a list now.
October 18, 2011
Nah, it would consist almost entirely of actors and stunt doubles from "Hercules" and "Xena". LOL! Yours is more, er, fleshed out.

Despite looking extremely cool, I have to admit that I'm a dork. I grew up on the outskirts of the small town of Oberlin, LA. I have since relocated to the Lake Charles, LA area.I love my home state … more
