My favorite movies of 2011 continued

  • Dec 31, 2011
This is a list of more of my favorite movies of 2011. This does not mean that I enjoyed these movies any less than the movies on my first list.
1
Dolphin Tale
This is another movie that shows the connection a childc an have with an animal. This film about an dolphin with an injured tail is so moving. This film is so touching. There are great performances by Harry Connick Jr. and Morgan Freeman here..
2
Hugo
This is Martin Scorsese's best film in a long time. This film is about a boy who lives in a train station. He makes a friend with a young girl. Together they discover the life and work of a reclusive film maker played by Ben Kingsley. Kingsley gives his best performance in many years.
3
The Help
This is an excellent film about a young woman who writes about the experiences of black maids who work from white families. Viola Davis gives an Oscar worthy performance in the lead role. This film contains the best movie song of the year. "The Living Proof" by Mary J. Blige is a powerfully moving song.
See the full review, "The Help is the best film I have seen this year".
4
'We Bought A Zoo' Starring Matt Damon
This is a true story about a widower who buys a zoo and works hard to restore it. It is good to see Matt Damon playing a regular guy for a change. I love how he tries to connect with his teenage son. Thomas Haden Church gives an excellent performance in a supporting role as Matt Damon's brother. Scarlett Johansson is also great here as a head zoo keeper.
5
Puss in Boots
This is a good animated film about a swash buckling cat. Antonio Banderas gives excellent voice work in the title role. This movie contains fun latin instrumental music.
See the full review, "I like the story line, animation and Latin music in this movie.".
6
50/50
This is a true story about a young man suffering from cancer. This is the first buddy movie about cancer I have ever seen. Joseph Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen are so believeable as the best of friends.
7
The Descendants
George Clooney gives a realistic performance as a father struggling to raise two daughters by himself. This film showcases the beauty of my island home of Hawaii. This movie features lovely slack key Hawaiian music.
See the full review, "The Descendants is a moving and funny film.".
8
The Muppets
I grew up watching The Muppets. It is great to see them on the big screen again. This film features classic Muppet songs like "The Rainbow Connection" and The Muppet movie theme song.
See the full review, "The Muppets is the best family film of the year".

I've been wanting to see Dolphin Tale, 50/50 and yes, I too grew up with the Muppets and would like to see this one too! I'm glad to see these on your list. We Bought A Zoo is another one I'd like to see - Matt Damon playing a regular guy is appealing and I'm glad you mentioned Thomas Haden Church; I always loved his character in the series "Wings"...thanks for sharing your list!
