If you could become a movie star, which star would you pick to live his/her career and why?

A character actor probably. It wouldn't matter if the movie was good or not or how lame the lead actor was, I can imagine critics all saying "the only saving grace is character actor TheJohn turning in another great performance."

character actor? would you say the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis?

maybe. I always think of Harry Dean Stanton, Dan Hedaya, M Emmet Walsh and Brad Douriff when it comes to character actors, but sure DDL.
