My favorite fantasy to feature swordplay is a tie between The Princess Bride and Willow. In The Princess Bride, Inigo Montoya and Westley were just fantastic with their swordplay, especially in the scene on The Cliffs of Insanity. Who could forget that amazing duel? With Willow, it was all about Madmartigan (played by Val Kilmer). He was so much fun with the sword. Of course, Willow Ufgood himself (played by Warwick Davis) had some nice scenes with the sword.

The runner up for this category would be any of The Lord of the Rings. They were all exciting with excellent examples of swordplay.

Ooh, I'm going to have to break this down into categories....

Favorite fantasy films with swordplay would have to be The Lord of the Rings.
Favorite comedy would have to be The Princess Bride.
Favorite comic book film would have to be Blade.
Favorite foreign film would have to be Yojimbo.
Favorite family film would have to be Willow.
I'm not sure about historical epics or animated films...

It would have to be any of the three films in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Those movies had everything from brilliant directing to great acting to compelling plotlines!

With swordplay? Hmm. Well, there's a fair amount of it in THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but it certainly isn't overboard by any estimation. The swordplay from the 90's remake of THE THREE MUSKETEERS wasn't all that bad, though the movie itself was pretty tepid. The swordfight in the conclusion of LADYHAWKE was pretty memorable, too, as was the finale from THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO. The original ZORRO gets major props from fencing afficianados (sp?), but I honestly found it 'meh.'

You don't do see enough quality fencing anymore, though some of the sabre battles from the STAR WARS Prequel Trilogy has some fine moments.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It is all those things and kitchen sinks. I think the only category where it would probably not rank in the top 20 or so would be chick flick.
