This is a tough one and I will add to it later but I think one of my favorite villains is Pastor Abin Cooper from Kevin Smith's "Red State", played wonderfully by Michael Parks. My villains list will actually grow here but as far as Hero's, I have always been a villain person, still I will try.

My favorite heroes would be Indiana Jones, Sam Gamgee or anyone from The Fellowship of the Ring, and Jason Bourne is pretty sweet as well. For villains HAL 9000, Darth Vader of course, and probably throw in the most recent Joker as well.

Are we talking comc book-inspired films only or all genres?

If we're talking comic book movies, it's a toss-up between Christian Bale's Batman and Christopher Reeve's Superman for heroes. For villains, I'd have to say Heath Ledger's The Joker and Stephen Dorff's Deacon Frost.

If we're talking fantasy films, then the immediate choice for heroes would have to be the entire Fellowship of the Ring. For villains, I really like Jean Marsh as Queen Bavmorda and Christopher Lee as Saruman.

For horror films the heroes are the villains and as such Max Schreck as Count Orlok, Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula, Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's Monster, Christopher Lee as Count Dracula.

For science fiction films, the heroes would have to be Keanu Reeves as Neo, Kevin McCarthy as Dr. Miles Bennell, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Donnie Darko. For villains, Hugo Weaving as Mr. Smith, David Prowse as Darth Vader (with James Earl Jones' voice being mainly responsible for the characterization), and of course Brigitte Helm as Maria and Machine Man.

For action film heroes, Bruce Willis as John McClane, Jackie Chan as Kevin Chan Ka-Kui, , Bruce Lee in anything, Antonio Banderas as El Mariachi, and Uma Thurman as The Bride. For villains, Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii and

For adventure film heroes, Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones... 'nuff said. For villains, I really like Jaws the shark. : )

My favorite villain in recent years would have to be Anton from No Country For Old Men. It took a while for me to think of who would be next in that line of classic movie villian and there aren't many who are so errie or scary as him, especially in recent years. For a hero the Nolan series Batman for how he is ready to take on a crime epidemic for no reason other then his own thirst for justice and almost single handedly does the job in the span of two movies.

Wow, that's a tough one. For villains, probably Darth Vader, although I'm also fond of Norman Bates and most of the Disney villains. For heroes, Luke Skywalker would definitely be on that list, as would Batman, Superman, and Harry Potter.
